Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Happy Thursday

November 20, 2025: You are inching towards breakthrough. It will not be sudden, but will be gradual and lasting. You might not even realize that you are making headway at first. Set your heart and mind to be hopeful and positive. The Lord is leading, guiding, directing and protecting you. Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

He’s been practicing for a while now. Getting paid by Tennessee to prepare for the NFL.
Will start happening more than you think. Shaedon Sharpe signed with Kentucky during the NIL era and never stepped on the court and was a top 10 draft pick in the NBA draft... Got paid for sitting on the bench ..

Tim Tebow was an incredible college QB. One of the greatest college football players of all time.
He wasn't great qb, his real threat was running the ball. How was he used in his freshman year? He was a great athlete, and there is a million examples of great athletes playing qb who are not great qbs. As a pure qb Tebow couldn't cut it in the League. In CFB you don't need an elite passing qb to win, though it doesn't hurt.

And receiving a free education.
Here come the full press to make sure it doesn’t look like he sat out all year:

“He keeps trying to give it a go and the knee has swelling. So he has to shut it down.”

Swelling is so bad and continuous that he keeps practicing every week and has been for most of the season….. hmmmmm

feel like florida in this sec is a step back from usc. just a thought.
In today's CFB USC has some real obstacles. It is private institution, the West Coast is not the hotbed of talent it once was due to changing demographics and culture, and they are not the big fish anymore who can just pick anyone they want. Florida is better job.

We do need to grab a QB out of the portal. Don’t agree w the FBS option. We lucked out with Joey playing as well as he has.

Just look at some of the QBs in the portal from last year: Mendoza, Beck, Mateer, Mensah, and Dampier. All having good seasons and almost all their current teams in position for BCS playoffs.

We need to grab a QB from a major program going through a coaching change, wanting more NIL, etc.

Leavitt from ASU would be a good solid get. Heup would do wonders with him.

Total conjecture here. But I’m concerned baseball is in for a tailspin. You just don’t listen to fans and the current team. And to be candid Elander may have been the best we could have gotten. So maybe moot point.
Yup - conjecture.

IMO it's just different, not worse. Could be better. Easily.

This roster is loaded and Josh Reynolds was the slotted replacement for Frank all along. They now have four coaches with recruiting chops on staff plus one as a bench coach in CCJ with hitting expertise that coached under Schloss and O'Sullivan in his background. He brings recruiting connections into traditional deep south areas we were not getting to well. Kivett is still the RC, Things have gone well with him there.

Elander will still recruit and close the deals - all the players have looked to him for guidance all along. You will probably see the hitting emphasis go to RBI instead of swinging for the fences every pitch. Solo HR's are still only one run produced. Getting deep into innings with timely hitting, doubles and going the other way is CJE's and CCJ's jam. CCJ shores up every aspect of CJE - hitting and D. Look at his background. When C-Mo was tearing it up, so was Cags at UF who got drafted ahead of him. UF led the conference in fielding % last season at .982. I expect much better D going forward.

As volbeast said look for a pitching lab. I am hoping that happens because that is what CJR can do.. As good as Frank was, it could be better. They have been winning with hitting. The pitching and D needs to improve. Last season was not it despite the talent.

Why would it matter how he was used Fr year when he has other years of significant playing time?

Agree you don’t necessarily need an elite passing QB but I think you’d be surprised at the passing stats Tebow put up in college. He was an elite college QB. I give zero shites about the NFL.

With all this being said “good stuff” by the way…how do we feel about losing our strength and conditioning coach?..I’ve not seen anyone mention that…does it hurt? Or replaceable?

No doubt Tebow had passing stats that is for sure but his running threat combined with the fact that his team was vastly superior everyone else contributed to that. When the windows got tighter he was not a good passer, which is a qbs main job. Tebow was a great CFB player.

Who’s going to come here if we get labeled as not giving freshmen a fair shot at earning the starting position when the lights come on?…look around you man Fulmer is gone!…other schools are paying more than us and starting freshman talent working the kinks out as they progress through the season.it’s important we have some kind of pitch to these guys at least until we become elite and with how college football is looking it’s not good chief.

Think you got to be realistic. Tony was a once in a generation CBB coach. We were lucky to keep him as long as we did. He is the rare ability to put ego aside and bring in the best. Which made him better.

How many other college coaches have been promoted directly to the bigs? With 0 big league or minor league experience?

Ill wait...

My point is we reloaded without going anywhere. The successors were always known, even though they werent. Think on that. The best picked their own guys.

Now, realistically I think there are certain expectations, based upon reality.

Older teams seem to play better down the stretch.

This is the best conference in BB.

We have the best coaches in this Conference.

We have a new head coach, strength, and pitching coach.

He will have elite talent.

So I mean just based upon facts, I think we should expect to compete every weekend. But do not expect a TV year. This is a new era.

He gave his all for Tennessee including a knee. I don’t blame him for being cautious. It will be nice to claim an NFL CB as a former Vol.

I’m curious what your objective is? You have been on this train all year. Would you prefer that we kicked him off the team to make you feel better?

You clearly have a plan to fix this issue, let’s hear it.

It shouldn’t make any difference at all as long as the guy doesn’t allow the players to run their own workouts like has happened in the past. We should keep the same philosophy, imo.

Asking legitimately - who are the schools that matter starting freshman QB? I can name Sayin at OSU as RS Fr and Underwood at Michigan as true Fr

He hasnt been cleared for contact, doing soft individual work is different from full 11 on 11, which he’s only done briefly the past couple of weeks
