Boswell and Ament both limited in practice

I think you guys are too harsh on Carey, he had 8 and 10 in our first game. I also thought he did just fine in the first half - would wait a while before writing him/Abram off.
For me it's about mistakes and missed oppys for Carey thru 3 games...he hasn't looked anything like what I expected. He has been outplayed by Brown overall which I did not see coming (and I knew Brown was a good commit for us).

And with Abram being a non-factor and Burg being okay, but not spectacular, I don’t think there’s much argument to play anyone over him right now.

Boswell is great defender, is a great rebounder for a guard, and has knocked down open shots in the few opportunities he’s had. Right now, he’s a starter and should be.
It kills me how people write players off based on such small sampling. Late last year, a large contingent had concluded that Boswell would never be a contributor, and now they're looking silly.

What were you saying about Abram?

It appears JP, Okpara & Phillips are getting +/-20 minutes. Carey & Brown are currently competing for the last 20 minutes. Hard to rotate 5 guys at 2 positions and everyone be happy with their PT

To put a nice little bow on the disappointment discussion that ties the two players together, I need Gillespie and Carey to find a new pair of shoes like I need my next breath. The all-black Sketchers slip-on look has gotta go. It's disgusting. 😄
Gillespie got the message, I see. Carey can probably attribute his lack of playing time to his choice in pitiful footwear.

Carey has been my biggest disappointment so far (would be real nice to have someone other than Estrella who can score in the post) but this is a close 2nd (still early). I also worry about our speed in the backcourt esp for our perimeter D against SEC competition.

Definitely the most frustrating because you can see what kind of player he COULD be especially with his size.

Estrella has earned all the minutes he can handle. As for Carey & Brown, Carey has the experience, but not the talent. So, I don't see why you can't split their minutes pretty evenly until the talent wins out.

All I know is, as fans it's a good problem to have. Someone will likely be transfering after the season, but I hope not.

Not sure we should be to worried about our posts transferring

Brown - Freshman
Estrella - R-So
Phillips - Junior
Carey - Junior
Okpara - Senior

Unless Okpara has another year I don't know about, I think our four man post rotation will be strong next year.

Don't forget...Jaylen Carey has been at 3 schools in 3 years, now. I've always viewed him as a 1-yr rental. If we get 2 years, I'd count it as a bonus.

True but Vanderbilt is a step up from James Madison and Tennessee is a step up from Vanderbilt. Not sure he has it in him to take another step to a bigger program than TN. But you may be totally correct ands its about NIL or something else. I don't have any insight to any of that.

It may not be a step up. He may decide he’s not getting the playing time he wants and go somewhere else. Way too early to tell, but yeah it may be unrelated to him trying to climb the ladder.

I've not noticed a drop-off in athleticism, which doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I have noticed that he has been maybe slightly frustrated with the rotation with all the depth. He's averaging 17 mpg, down from 26, last year. The Mercer game can be attributed to foul trouble (4 PFs), but he only played 20 minutes against NKU, and had 0 PFs.

In the Mercer game, he was visibly upset with Troy Henderson, I believe, on a missed defensive assignment that led to Okpara picking up his second foul about 30 seconds after his first, and a long 10-minute stint on the bench for the rest of the 1st half.
Agreed. I think he sees the writing on the wall honestly with Estrella back & healthy, plus the emergence of D. Brown. They’re both going to eventually eat up most, if not all of his minutes. And they both should as they’re both a lot better than him.

If it’s between Carey & Brown, we better hope it’ll be Carey transferring. Brown is going to be a BIG TIME player here the next few years if he stays healthy. He was insanely underrated coming out of high school.

That may be a bridge too far, perhaps. Felix is still a starter and will continue to be. He and JP in tandem is a great combo. Okpara is still the best defensive post player we have, so he's not going to just lose all of his minutes. But, he is going to have to earn those minutes and share them, something he didn't necessarily have to do, last year, given that Okpara and Phillips were our only two true post players. We had Milicic and Dubar who could help a bit, but were more perimeter-oriented guys like Ament, this year.
