You're using hyperbole. 10-12 years of instability does not equate to "most unstable of all time". We were quite stable before that.

Looking at it again, it's such a strange play design.

The benefit of a play like this is that the RB is available to be a lead blocker (see Aguilar's TD against MS State). But they run to the right, so all he can do is jog behind the play and get ready to scrape his QB off the field.

I think the benefit is disguise, they're hoping the LBs are confused by the RB not getting the ball and the actual ball carrier getting to the hole faster than the RB and that the LB won't have as much time to react.

Well that's a Tim Banks argument as well. I mentioned before, some think it's the Jimmie and Joes as to why we have regressed so much. I think it's a fair assessment in both situations.

Highly unlikely that Heup is on their short list of top candidates.

Heupel is an offensive coach, so we spend more NIL on offense than we do defense. We have to do something where we can spend more on defense. Tim Banks is not a horrible DC, IMO, but he lacks the talent he needs to run a proper defense. Last year, when the secondary wasn't such a liability, defense was fine. DL was better because we had space eaters like Omari and Elijah, and ONL was a disruptive force. McCoy and Gibson were playing great at CB. Everything clicked. But this year, we failed to replace the missing parts, so the defense often collapses. That said, Banks is a horrible safeties coach. Apparently, he has trouble identifying talent at the position. Or maybe developing it. Or maybe both. I just know we haven't seen great safety play while he's been here.

Bottom line is you have to have both. I mean do you think OSU stays at the top of the world without a roster stocked full of blue chips and an elite coaching staff? No way.

Elite coaching can mask subpar players just like elite players can mask subpar coaching.

Even if it were true, why would he want to go to such a mess? And I doubt LSU could offer him more than we can. They have to pay Kelly's buyout. LSU would make no sense for Heupel.

I know a bunch want to say it’s all Banks fault the defense is so bad. That’s just lazy thinking. It’s not all his fault.

I have to tell you fine folks that the game on Saturday was great even if our guys were sleepwalking a bit. It was my son's first time seeing the Vols in person and it was worth all the bumper to bumper traffic on 75 south heading home. He loved walking around seeing different stuff on campus. Got a good spot for the Vol walk and he got a five from the likes of Redmond, West, Herring, Pendleton, Sanders, Staley, Matthews, Telander, and more...special shout out to Max Gilbert for coming straight over to my son instead of continuing down the middle of the road. I know a lot of the guys are focused and have their headphones going to help them lock in, so nothing against them, but it meant the world to my son to have all those players stick their hand out.

The flyover was deafening and something he'd never experienced. While it wasn't the slaughter we hoped for, there were still many great moments that gave him a little taste of what Neyland can be. I think he's solidly a Vol now and has already asked about coming back. Absolutely one of the highlights of my life.

Have to make a real investment at the safety position. Its clear that we don't value that position of all of the defensive positions. Don't necessarily disagree with that approach but it's obvious it's our weakest position and have been since this staff got here.

You would think safety and IDL would have been where we spent money going into this season with everyone we had coming back. Those misses have been huge.
