Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I didn’t till about 29 years old.
And I do love a good redemption story. I hope he’s gets it figured out before it’s too late

Took me awhile myself, longer than you, but I didn’t have anyone paying me a bunch of money to play a game I love and just keep my nose clean while doing it either. Kid needs someone in his camp to explain to him the benefit of playing the long game.

Well, Beamer has apparently survived the weekend. I don’t know how you can retain him as your Head Football Coach if you’re SC, but it seems they are going to. If you were going to fire him, now would be the time to do it so you can go ahead and jump in the arms race that is already taking place, the earlier you get in the better.

Man, can you imagine needing to fire and hire a coach right now?
Seriously though, who could SoCar expect to get that can compete in this league?
And Beemer has had has things just go horribly wrong this year. He literally beats Bama and runs out the clock without a fumble with less than 2 minutes left in the game.

They were ranked between 11th and 15th in the country depending on which poll you look at preseason and talking playoffs, they are currently 3-7 and will not even be bowl eligible for the 2nd time in 3 years. He just lost a 27 point lead lead in one half of football and gave the most awful post game presser in history. That’s the type of stuff that gets you fired. They fired Muschamp for less. The coaching carousel is going to be interesting once the first domino falls. A lot of programs all going after the same candidates. The amounts of some of these salaries is going to be astounding.

Nevermind: I found it. Yikes.

You know where I can find the Beamer post game? I looked for it yesterday but couldn’t find it.

I thought maybe he skipped it altogether after that **** talking he was doing at the half.

Good point. Joey could beat out top10 HS QB AND #1 QB from HS Faizon next year easily. Experience in college trumps talent. We are using the wrong model then always landing top QBs and OM and aTm are using the right one. Unless we do both and thats best of course IF the HS kid stays and sits a year or 2

HS QBs and other skill players who want to game the system will go where they are offered starting jobs in lesser conferences and use the portal, experience, and talent (if there) to get where they really want to play. Coaches who want to keep jobs aren't going to be able to take chances on developing HS talent to keep them afloat. This is going to be a brutal wild west chit show until calmer heads step in and get it under control.

I spotted AM64 on the hill.

View attachment 790011

I actually was there at a time when Ayers Hall was visible from inside the stadium. Seems like I was a Soph perhaps a Jr when temporary type bleachers were added at the end facing the Hill. The Army ROTC used to fire a cannon after touchdowns at that end.

I find the "Saban cheated" narrative to be a load of sour grapes.
I understand why intelligent people like AM64 are compelled to repeat it. But is rings hollow to me.

He cheated. We cheated. Georgia cheated. Auburn cheated.

Saban was the GOAT

I agree that everybody cheated or had boosters boosting players with unofficial payments. BUT Bama and a few other schools handled it on a whole different level.

I also think that winning has been so endemic at some schools like Bama, MI, OH St, etc that players are naturally drawn there because it looks good on a "resume". We're very much a society biased to where you were, who you knew, what you did, etc as a means to "distinguish" and feel important. If NIL really manages to level the field, some of those teams may lose some of their attraction.

Don't you think it will all fall out like a game of musical chairs with old fired coaches just winding up at different schools where they are supposed to win when it didn't happen before. There may only be one Jimbo, but there are lots of clones, and you'd think P T Barnum is the agent representing each of them. Maybe ADs in general are just addled and clueless; we went through some real losers between Doug Dickey and Danny White.

Kicked out of Chattanooga Christian school for groping girls. Asked to leave brainard for…..who knows. At Bradley had a couple of issues but made it to graduation.

Unfortunately he’s got a ridiculous amount of talent but can’t stay out of trouble. Then there’s mom.

100% this. Adios. Dont let the door hit ya...

Really classy guy to hold UT hostage as soon as McCoy was hurt for more $$$ knowing we "really needed him". Turns out not so much...

At this point it’s hitting the lottery.
Coaching a few years…..get fired….and have more money than your great grandkids could ever spend.
It really has gotten stupid. And with the nil leveling the field, the days of yearly domination seem to be coming to an end.

We should expect playoff appearances 3/4 years. And if the coach is making the clip 2/4 I'm not firing. If your in the playof it's a crap shoot. No one had OSU and ND battling for the title last year. It's a war of attrition
Why should we expect that?

Based on the AP poll, before Heupel we would have only gone to the playoffs in 13 of the last 50 years.

Of the 13 years we would have made it, 9 of those times there was only 1 other SEC team that would have made it in. That is not the reality we live in.

Under Fulmer there was legit only 1 other good SEC team. And you guys know how well he did against Spurrier. Fulmer would never have won a title in this SEC.

Fulmer last SEC title was 1998.

That's because the University of Tennessee has learned to accept slightly above mediocre as a standard.

We should expect that bc that essentially means your a top 15 program. There is no excuse for us not to be. And the last 20 year **** show doesn't change that.

Also like to note that my Panthers have apparently finally emerged from our long term suckitude like my other team the Titans...and are 6-5 and pushing for a possible playoff spot as a wildcard. They will probably blow it..
But our 175lb gump QB is actually finally showing promise. That is all.
Weren't you playing the Falcons? I wouldn't read anything into it beyond being better than the Falcons.

Absolutely this. Beamer gets paid $27 MILLION dollars to leave. I would never work another day in life for anyone except on a volunteer basis. My grandkids own grandkids should never HAVE to work with that much money. It would earn a couple million dollars a year, every year, at 8% returns and any financial advisor worth his salt will promise you that. Without ever touching the principal you could live lavishly and spend/donate/tithe $1.5M per year while getting richer each year.

Of course many lottery winners who come into that much money completely destroy their lives and families...and you know what the Book says about a rich mans chances of getting into Heaven. Its not impossible, but unlikely. Regardless I don't know anyone who would turn the money down...but several who would give the vast majority away and still live comfortably which is admirable. These coaches salaries are insanely high already and only going to get more obscene in this NIL craziness.

**unfortunately taxes would take about half of that money all told...but I didnt elaborate due to being in this thread

As always, who do you get? Majors won a title at Pitt but couldn't at UT.

Everybody thinks they should be better than they are. The reality is that title years are supposed to be a rarity, not something 30 different teams honestly expect each year.

I showed you 50 years, why are you trying to deflect to 20 years? Even if you removed those 20 years before Heupel we still aren't making the playoffs every other year.

Fulmer took advantage of a terrible SEC to sneak one title out of it. And now yall act like anyone who can't do something Fulmer never did should be fired in 3 years.

1 a decade would be a rarity and an expectation.

You can make the playoffs with 2 or fewer regular season losses. Fulmer did that 7 times. Yes my expectations are reasonable. He finished in the top 15 9 times.
