I'd play George MacIntyre

Playing a 3-6 new mexico st should give Jake and GMac a lot of playing time this weekend, hopefully Coach pulls Joey in the 2nd Quarter to get our backups more game reps Especially with the starters.
I really believe Jake or GMac, especially GMac, could lead this team next year while getting that needed experience.
I really hope that we can start fast and go up 3-4 scores in the first 20 minutes or so and mix the younger guys in with the 1s. I don’t feel like you can make a great assessment of where these guys will be unless they’re playing with the starters in live game situations.

Who gives you the best chance to beat Florida and Vandy. Thats JA. You play JA.
THIS all day long.
Only time you play G Mac this year is when you are up 3 scores in the NMSt game and the 2nd half of the bowl game.

I'm a fan during the bowl game of playing next year's potential starter(s) in the 2nd half regardless of score.

Florida fired their coach. Josh Heupel is in year 5 with a talented group of receivers and running backs. Quite arguably the best offense Tennessee has taken to the swamp since Dooley’s 2011 squad when Justin Hunter tore his ACL. The difference here is that it’s a meaningless game that is nothing more than a scrimmage hyped up as some vital pivot game.

There’s far more long term benefits to ripping the bandaid off now and spending the next 3 weeks with the QB’s here next year than it is keeping them bubble wrapped out of blind loyalty.
No there isn't. This isn't Madden.

Players want to win, even when there is "nothing to play for." JA clearly gives us the best chance to win. The players in the locker room know that. And you can bet your ass they want to win in the Swamp and that they want to send little brother Vandy home crying to their momma.

By benching JA, you are signaling to other players you don't care about wins and losses. And it tells the rest of the seniors on this team that their efforts don't matter the rest of the season.

No coach in the nation is going to do that. Not a good one anyways.

I can't argue against it. If we're just looking for wins, Joey is your guy. But if we're building for next season, you got to bring in one of the other guys. I would let McIntyre quarterback to the entire game. Maybe bring Joey in for a couple of drives just to keep him warmed up for the next week at Florida. The Florida and Vanderbilt games are going to mean everything for recruiting this year. We need those wins now more than ever. If there's any perception that CJH is starting to fall apart here at Tennessee will cause a lot of Blue Chip players to look elsewhere. Having McIntyre have a good game against New Mexico state would show the next recruiting class that we have a strong quarterback here to lead the team day one that will have to fight for his starting job against a five-star freshman. That would lead most anyone to believe that they are in good hands knowing who our coach is and knowing who will be throwing them the ball.

This is a wee bit ridiculous, to think it has to be a white or black dichotomy, bench JA from the get-go, or not play any back-up QB at all.

Y'all do realize Vols a 40 point fav at home. Pretty sure that Joey can put this game out of reach, AND one or more backup QBs can then come in. Exactly who/when is up to our coaches. 🤔🤷

JA is not getting benched untill the game is well out of reach and he will play against Florida and Vandy. No one is benching him to play Gmac. You guys are idiots that think that. Josh will probably get another veteran QB in the portal also. No one is getting the keys for next years starter unless it's earned next Spring.

9-3 does nothing for the program. Heupel has officially regressed for the first time here.

We have a bye week, a pay for game. Matthews and Staley will be here next year. Time to get live reps with Merk and GMac and start planning for the future.

Players get paid now. This is a business.
You mean to tell me if we go nine and three and win our bowl game and finish at 10 and three do you think we have regressed with CJH averaging 10 wins a season? Yes getting knocked out out of the playoff sucks but if you’re telling me we’re averaging 10 wins a season now I’m good with it.

Normally typical for these types games so you don't risk injury on your A players. Not sure what all the fuss is.

It's not about one bad game behind us. This season is now not much more than a scrimmage for next season. It's about having an experienced QB next year.
So you'll really be fine with losing to Florida and/or Vandy, since they're meaningless scrimmages? I don't think so. This board will be melting down.

It's a new level of stupid to be honest.

8-4 was by far considered to be the most likely scenario for this team when the season started. Then JA plays well and everyone believes this team is magically on par with Ohio State, and anything less than a first round bye in the playoffs is a failure. It's ridiculous. If we get to 10 wins considering the injuries on defense and having a G5 QB come in during the summer with no experience in the system, then I would consider this to be Heup's best performance thus far.

JA playing well has been huge for us. But he's also been much more turnover prone than our previous QBs. We've been fortunate in other games that those turnovers didn't cost us too much. But they finally culminated into game changing turnovers vs both OU and Bama. It is what it is. We wouldn't be 6-3 right now without JA, but 2 of those 3 losses can largely be attributed to JA.
