This ESPN/Disney deal sounds like it's getting ugly

Guess I'm just old and stubborn. Tired of being a money pinata that both Disney and Google keep whacking for every last dime they can squeeze out of me. And I won't even start with the recent change Amazon has made to their Prime service. When push comes to shove, I grew up with AM radio so it's like a well worn, comfortable pair of boots for me. You might not believe it, but some say I'm ornery, too.
I would have told them to kick rocks, but I have a lot of conversations with my dad about Tennessee. And I decided yesterday I can't give that up. 😢

we won’t even miss it. i didn’t have a TV from my senior year of college up until i had kids. if there’s a big game i’ll go to buffalo wild wings like thr good pot days

keeping amazon prime video for the wife and kids. everything else gone
We did the same. Netflix is now our only paid subscription service. We just found that we weren't using all those streaming services enough to justify the cost. Plus there are so many free streaming services out there like Tubi, Pluto TV, FUBO, etc. Even YouTube has a ton of free movies and TV shows. As for watching college football, I can usually find most of the games streaming ion YouTube. I watched 3 games yesterday streaming off of YouTube.

Good morning my Big Orange peeps
I read somewhere but stumbled upon SEC channel, most if not all espn, yesterday during all my search anguish.
I have Fire TV from day one, yttv as my tv browser and an espn subscription for mobile and tv. but I only opened espn thru my apps installed on my big screen, I did not open up yttv.
I watched ā€œliveā€ as KY beat the brakes off Fla
Every live feed I tried worked as expected, but this was an app installed on my tv years ago, I’m sure the app has the latest version update.
I dislike paying for services and getting subpar results or crappy /false service.

In this Orange blood ole head, By far my most favorite memories are of John Ward calling
ā€œTouchdown Tennnnaseeee!ā€
Or
ā€œ Give him SIXxx!ā€
Or
ā€œBOTTOM ā€œ
But dang Mike Keith calls a hell of game. Im
Glad to be Clad in ORANGE !!

ESPN content is accessible on Disney+ through a bundled subscription, which includes ESPN+ or the new ESPN Unlimited service. To watch, open the Disney+ app, find the "ESPN" icon on the homepage, and enter the ESPN hub to explore live sports, replays, and other content based on your subscription level.

I only learned of it AFTER paying for a day pass of Sling TV.

I did have to "connect" my accounts which was silly considering I have the ESPN+, Disney+, Hulu bundle.
This doesn’t work for me. I have this bundle and I can watch Gameday through it, but once the games start I can’t get access to any SEC games due to local blackout. Also zero access to espn2, sec network, etc. No issues until the last 2-weeks.

When I go to watch live it says I need another package.

I had "select" ESPN and had to enter my TV provider (YouTube TV). When that quit working I had to get the "ultimate" bundle.

When you state ā€œthe offerings are not worth the costā€, my mind immediately goes to NIL money. A scheme to withdraw additional money from fans and businesses, to support athletes who used to be supported by schools giving scholarships.
Totally in that boat. It is not entertaining anymore. Fortunately life has better options.

Disney’s Blackout With YouTube TV Sparks Punishing $30M In Weekly Losses For Mouse House: Analysts

Walt Disney Co. is hemorrhaging roughly $30 million in revenue every week that its networks remain off YouTube TV, according to a new analysis from Morgan Stanley — adding fresh urgency to a standoff that has already stretched into its second week.

The blackout, which began Oct. 30 after contract talks collapsed, has left ESPN, ABC and other Disney-owned channels unavailable to YouTube TV’s estimated 10 million subscribers.

The impasse comes during one of the busiest stretches of the sports calendar, with ā€œMonday Night Football,ā€ NBA and college football games all affected.

In a Sunday note to clients, Morgan Stanley analyst Ben Swinburne projected that Disney’s ongoing dispute with Google-owned YouTube TV would shave $60 million off the company’s revenue if the outage lasts two weeks — or about $4.3 million a day, according to Business Insider.

Swinburne cut his estimate for Disney’s quarterly net income by $25 million, to $1.52 billion, noting the blackout could dent earnings by about 2 cents a share.

The bank’s estimate shows how much Disney depends on ESPN’s carriage fees and advertising revenue, particularly as cord-cutting accelerates and sports rights costs rise.

The networks’ absence from YouTube TV threatens both viewership and affiliate payments tied to live sports broadcasts.

Hi TN,
ā€Œ
We've been working in good faith to negotiate a deal with Disney that pays them fairly for their content and returns their programming to YouTube TV. We know it’s been disappointing to lose Disney content, and we want you to know we deeply appreciate your patience. In light of the disruption, we’re offering our subscribers a $20 credit.
ā€Œ
To redeem your credit, please go to the ā€˜Updates’ tab in Membership Settings using your web browser, and follow the prompts. Once complete, this discount will be applied to your next bill for YouTube TV.
ā€Œ
We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions. As always, family managers have the ability to pause or cancel anytime.

We will keep negotiating with Disney to restore their channels on YouTube TV. In the meantime, thanks for your continued membership.
ā€Œ
Sincerely,
The YouTube TV team

such a shame!

This. When I first started yttv, it was, I think $59.99 a month. And it has risen every year since. Because of greedy companies like Disney trying to bleed every penny they can and creating monopolies.
YouTube was losing money at that price, they were going up regardless of Disney. They just had to stay at that level long enough to use Google's money and basically starve everyone else out.

I pay $115.00 a month with spectrum for TV

YT is $82.00 a month? Or close to it.

Is $33.00 more a month too much? I gladly pay it knowing I never have to worry about this crap
don't be dumb and think you'll never have to worry about it. this happens with every carrier. they all have contracts with Disney.

Trust me, I don't worry. I think it's happened once several years ago. Nothing like the other carriers.

My main point was everyone thinks they're saving a ton of money by avoiding cable but there's not a big difference in price.

After bowl season I’m cancelling my YouTubeTV…don’t watch much TV and there are plenty of free channels with bazillions of reruns of old TV shows for my wife. This last weekend I picked up the Auburn game off someone’s streaming on YouTube…I know those are hit or miss but that may be my approach next year. I’m tired of all the leeches

ESPN plays a huge role in the rigged and outcome-altering officiating in our league. And in actively covering up for it. F them.

YTTV doubling down on screwing us all in the ***..

You have to pay for another month to get reimbursed for this past month of unprovided services.

Not acceptable.

Doesn't bother me. I'm keeping YTTV.
That’s why you have no teeth and are all bark to them. The principle is that they didn’t provide what you paid for. It should be their duty to repay you. Not contingent on your loyalty.

Without ESPN, the only thing I’ve used YTTV for is streaming open air broadcasting. I can get CBS, NBC, and Fox with an antenna for free. ESPN only costs $20 a month. It would be stupid for me to continue paying almost $100 a month to watch college sports, when I can get the same thing for about $60 less.

YTTV can keep their reality tv channels and news entertainment. I don’t want it.

I've heard some good things about DirectTV stream. Their sports package for $59 doesn't look too bad. It includes ESPN Unlimited, Fox Sports, TNT and TruTV (so you don't miss the CFB playoff games), along with a bunch of other stuff like NBA TV, NFL Network, etc.

I have directv steam and I really like it

According to this, YTV wanted better rates than the competition, and that's why we're not getting ESPN.

Google appears to take the position that they bring more subscribers to Disney than anyone else so they should get a "volume discount."

That's not uncommon in business is it?
