All Time NBA Players Thread - No Jordan vs. Lebron Debate Allowed

IDK what he means by bending history. Above league average usage is kind of a meaningless filter to put on this.

"Volume" isn't usage, and nobody is looking at any of the GOATS and saying "we need our star to play with that much volume" they are looking at the winning teams and wondering how they can copy their efficiencies.

I'm not really a big NBA guy (well, since Jordan retired). However, I might start following Wemby as he could legitimately challenge ALL the greats if he continues to develop and stays healthy. He's just an unimaginable combination of size, athleticism, agility, and (improving) BB IQ.

Kobe's all time record of 30 missed FG's in a game was broken last night by Cade Cunningham with 31....and the Pistons won!

Kinda illustrates both the pace, efficiency, and rest pushes of the modern NBA.

Giannis is not even playing 30 mpg this season and he's averaging 28, 10, and nearly 6 apg.

Iverson scored 30+ ppg 4x in his career, and his fewest average MPG in those seasons was 42.0 MPG. LOL

For me the GOAT by position discussion is super easy:

Magic
MJ
Lebron
Duncan
Kareem

But if I'm actually building the best 5 to play together, then I need way more shooting.

Steph
MJ
Lebron
Kevin Durant
David Robinson

The Durant spot could easily go to Bird. Part of me wants to leave MJ off. The one time he played on a dream team like this, I didn't love the results. He shot so much and didn't shoot particularly well. All we ever saw him do was ballhog and he was really good at it, but would he mess up this team? IDK, but it's crazy to leave him off and I'm already getting cute at PF and C.

And if I were brave enough to do the MJ substitution, I would probably do this:

Steph
Kawhi
Lebron
Bird
David Robinson

I'd go, for my all-time starting line-up:

SG: Michael Jordan. Who else?
PG: Magic Johnson. Again, who else?
PF: Tim Duncan.
SF: Larry Bird.
C: Bill Russell. 11 championships in 13 seasons and the best defensive center in the history of the NBA.

Magic
Jordan
Bird
Duncan
Dream

Let me guess when you stopped watching the NBA... :D

The way the game is called today compared with how the way the game was called back then as far different. Michael Jordan got bludgeoned; LeBron James gets a touch foul and flops.

It’s not remotely the same. If you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you.

Actually the truth is the threshold for flagrant fouls was higher, you could hand check, but that doesn't mean they weren't calling touch fouls all the time in MJ's era...and MJ was the biggest beneficiary of that in the league. Bro, when Jordan scored 37 ppg, the league was shooting 30 FTA's per game on average. Now it's only 23 per game, and we haven't seen 24 per game since 2011.

They were calling everything in the Jordan era.
