Back the brinks truck up and get Blake Baker for DC

Whoa, whoa whoa now. God forbid we put any blame on the sensitive players. I mean they are getting paid but obviously it’s all the coaches fault. Can’t tackle? Coaching. Can’t turn your head around and look for the ball? Coaching. Whiff on a block? Coaching. Drop a pass? Coaching.

I agree with you. At some point these players have to start executing better. Plain and simple.
Agreed.

Not so much for the last couple of seasons. Heupel's offense has changed. These days our defense isn't fatigued because of the offense. It's gassed because it can't get off the field due to its own issues and limitations. This year ain't on the offensive scheme.

We are ranked 3rd to last in time of possession while having one of the highest scoring offenses.

That ain’t the defense’s doing.

Agree. After Week 10, we have the #100 best defensive stop rate out of 136 teams. You’re gonna get gassed giving up 90 yd drives.

Point well taken, but you can't absolve the defense for the amount of time they spend on the field. Missed tackles, 3rd downs, penalties, etc. They've contributed mightily to their own fatigue. Not saying every series has to be 3 and out, but some of the drives this defense has allowed to offenses that weren't other worldly.....sheese. I was exhausted just watching it on TV....when we could still see SEC games on YouTube TV....

Correct. But I can use the last 3 games column that shows a 1 minute gain in TOP that shows it was the offense primarily.

Our defense has played more than enough well to have gone 3-0 the last 3 all while the TOP has moved a minute.

2/3 of our losses came in a stretch where our defense has made majority of stops / FG attempts on opponent’s possessions.

Offense crapping the bed in the 2 losses did not cash in on the defensive performance.

Anybody ever consider with the way College football is now that the problem may not be the coaching but the players? When something goes wrong they either quit playing or bail. Since the NIL and portal look at all the coaching changes. Might be smart to just buy players instead of Coaches. Developing players is a thing of the past. Have you Wondered why Vandy is winning, could it be that their just a bunch of 3 stars playing as a team instead of an entitled commodity.
Yes! I’ve been saying this for a minute now. Just buy the freaking players, chat gpt can call the damn plays!!

Because our linebackers are completely unnoticeable on the field????

Going outside the staff means more than just the DC position having staff turnover. Josh ain’t gonna punish someone just because a new DC wants to bring in his own guys.

Nope. Now that these “kids” are being compensated, out in the open, they are fair game.
I’ve always restrained from dogging the “kids” but now we have the “college” football that everyone wanted and I put 50% blame on money, 40% on the “kids” and 10% on the coaches.

You realize we have to get a DC that is an upgrade that WANTS TO BE IN HERE right?

Heupel’s system is to force his own defense to stay on the field as much as possible as our offense is among the worst in time of possession this season.

DC’s are not flocking here to be in that type of system just because the money is right.
Also, Banks has two years left on a $2.1 million deal. Firing him would be very expensive. And it had better be justified by replacing him with a slam dunk coordinator, which would also be very expensive.

The truth is, he’s done a really good job up to this point. This year would be his worst job obviously, but he trended up every year before this one. Fans didn’t want to give him credit for the job he did before 2024. 2023 was a good defense. Not great, but good, especially for the personnel he had. In fact, before Hadden went down, that was one of the better defenses in the SEC.

He had a down year. That’s not a reason to fire him. Fans think emotionally and irrationally. Solid head coaches do not.

I don’t think Banks is likely to be fired more than it is likely he gets hired as a head coach as G5 school.

We have 2 big problems, one we need a OC that has more in the playbook than 4 or 5 plays. If it's not the bomb, it's the 25 yard pass across the field, now up the middle, up the middle. How bout a sweep, or a pitch out, reverse maybe, dang something a little different to throw them off
DC,,,,I don't know if he should be replaced, I think he is dealing with some sub par talent. And that talent takes 3 years to develop.
That’s your coach he calls the plays

We bring pressure too, that's not what the issue is
Right. Our success on defense seems very much dependent on quality corner play. We had a really good defense in 2023 before Hadden got hurt. Then it dropped off when he went down. We had an elite defense last year largely because we had two really good corners.

Next year, we should have Gibson back. And Redmond will be much better as a sophomore. Let’s just hope they stay healthy. And/or those freshmen like Poteat, Merritt, and Lewis develop.

Martinez is about ready to retire, anyway. Garner may also be there, but I’d love to keep him around and I think any DC would feel the same. So really just Inge and Harbin are who you’d have to worry about and that’s the nature of the business. Harbin should be pretty grateful to have had his job for any amount of time.
