Probably thinking how to spend all the money he has. His job was the end man on the line. He could have got Joey hurt badYep, he initially moved to double team the DT with our RG, then realized the edge rusher was blowing right by him. HOW....does he not pay complete attention to that edge rusher?? Huge mistake. I decided to make myself miserable this afternoon and go back and watch it play by play, pausing on a lot of plays. Stopped and started that play a half dozen times trying to figure out what he was thinking there.
47 for a head coach is young my friend. 1 more year isn’t enough to give the guy who would just finally be coming off recruiting restrictions the next year. The most extensive recruiting restriction in NCAA football history if I’m not mistaken. What buddies does he need to fire exactly? Tim banks had a top 10 defense last year.. Defense is full of young but talented players that should be coming next year and the year after. Only one I could argue could be fired is Willie Martinez and I might not even say that if the safeties weren’t the weakest link. Who else? Elarbee? He’s not great at recruiting but once they get here he’s GREAT at coaching them. Please do tell. Who should he fire? He’s 47. Coached nearly 100 games. He’s not really a young coach. The Oklahoma game on its own is frustrating… this isn’t about just the Oklahoma game. And I’m not saying that we need to fire him right now… in fact, I said the exact opposite if you actually read my post. I think we’re delaying the inevitable but I’m good with giving him another year. Next year will just be another slew of excuses though… tough schedule, potentially playing a freshman QB, etc., etc.
He brought us out of the darkest time in our program’s history. He will always have my respect for that. But, I don’t think he’s that guy… the guy to take us to the upper echelon of college football. Could he figure it out? I guess. Anything is possible but it’s going to take him making some changes. Dramatic ones for him… like firing some of his buddies. He’s never done that to my knowledge as a HC.
This is like saying you’ll never go to a restaurant because the kid at Burger King screwed up your Whopper. Predicting how Boyd/White/Plowman would conduct a coaching search based on Hart/Currie/Fulmer makes no sense. As much of an upgrade as Heupel was over Pruitt, White is actually a much bigger upgrade over Fulmer. Boyd and Plowman are also way, way, way better than their predecessors going back probably 20 years. That's not what he said.
Whether hes a Georgia Homer or not hes right.
These boneheads in this forum that are done with Heupel just want to cry and moan. Some have been asked who they'd hire to replace him and all Ive seen is "Me". Same BS with Butch. "My grandma could coach better, anyone would be better". What happened?
My point? They don't want to discuss it they just want to complain. Find one making a good case for a realistic replacement and Ill listen.
Some good programs out there looking for the next Saban. How many Sabans are there? Im not saying you cant fire Heupel, I wouldn't, but Im saying if you're gonna do it you better have a damn good plan and it seems nobody on this forum has one. Just fire him and throw a dart. Great plan.
Correct about the current leadership in the University. The odds back then weren’t that high when you had the morons we had leading the University. A bunch of trained chimps could have done better. The odds of us hiring a trio like Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt are almost as low as us hiring three straight Sabans. It’s almost impossible to do that badly and I don’t know that most ADs could put together a triumvirate of ineptitude like that if they tried.
We have decent leadership now and while the best case scenario is Heupel figuring out how to win big, I don’t think a nuclear disaster like Derek Dooley is very likely with who we have running the show currently.
Lulz, no its not like that at all. Firing Huepel makes no sense, but go ahead, I dont really give a chit. This is like saying you’ll never go to a restaurant because the kid at Burger King screwed up your Whopper. Predicting how Boyd/White/Plowman would conduct a coaching search based on Hart/Currie/Fulmer makes no sense. A guy who has forgotten more about football than you will ever know.
The problem that fans have is this is just their entertainment. They “Demand championships or else”. Unfortunately for them the university is running a business. They would like championships but ultimately it’s about the Cost/Benefit analysis. The reality is that Tennessee football has made more money under CJH than the last couple combined. If he can maintain competitive football while making the playoffs every 2-3 years then Tennessee football will be a cash cow forever. There are some morons saying dumb **** like “his ceiling is 10 wins”. Well, in 98 there are 4 games that one fluke play could have easily gone the other way and were a 4 loss team instead of the national champions.Theres so much stupid in this thread and forum right now that its embarrassing.
ANYONE calling for Coach Hypes job is an idiot and an embarrassment to our fanbase. Period. Not even debatable.
Fortunately only a very small % of our fanbase is that ignorant/stupid...but here on VN they can make threads and post comments which make them APPEAR to be a significant portion of our fanbase. Keyword is APPEAR.
Thank goodness that UT, our AD, coaches and the 90% plus of our fanbase love CJH and realize how lucky we are to have him and this staff. Hes gonna get a lot of job offers between the 4SEC jobs coming open and PSU. We need to do whatever is necessary to keep him.
