Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

Watched the first half of UCA and MIZZOU. It’s like a fever dream watching MIZZOU. Exact same stuff she ran here, just with less athleticism. The ball gets stuck a lot, players aren’t ready for the moment and nothing looks fluid.

They’re leading Central Arkansas by 1 at the half.

MIZZOU is out there “executing” meaning they execute one called set, either offensive or defensive, and then immediately quit playing and make a mistake. Instead of just getting out there and playing basketball they’re completely focused on what is being called and they aren’t finishing plays.

#21 Iowa is handling Southern after a half. Heiden on Iowa leading the way right now for all scorers with 15pts.

Briefly checked in on the Creighton/SDSU game. Townsend is Creighton's best player. Meyer for SDSU might get 40pts this game. Their respective conferences are not all that strong but SDSU has consistently made it into the NCAA tourney in recent years and they look like they'll be back there again this season.

Good to see you taking yer basketball seriously… 😉🤙🏼🧡

Missouri has 4 players out in this game, leaving 9 players. Last year’s pg, Kroenke, is now out for the season, leaving Tyler, the pg transfer from Kentucky, who is out tonight, and has not yet played this season. They have 9 players tonight. So far, Dowell is high scorer, and Shrek (her nickname) and Sotell are stepping up. They’re all new to each other, first game. GO MIZZOU!

Watching South Carolina right now. They look and play a lot different this season.
Looks like a team that’s having fun which is a good thing.
They have to play more 3 and 4 guard rotations this year. It’s different for them, I need to wait and see how it plays out. It’s a change for this team to be sure. I can see trouble on those nights when the outside shots are not falling but maybe I’m a pessimist. Anyway, the SC ladies will def lose some games this year, defense and rebounding was always their calling card for past 12 years and both of those aspects are way below the previous standards.

Tessa Johnson and Latson are strong in the backcourt however and maybe Raven has found her stroke, maybe. Tessa and Latson should both be top 5-15 in scoring for the conference, perhaps Edwards as well. Kitts going down was a huge loss, she was really good on the boards and was a dependable scorer in the post. Okot is not an equal replacement for Chloe imo, I just hope she is able to make up much of the loss.

Would not surprise me if Tenn wins the conference this year, I could def see that happening. I think it will be a close finish for SC, Tenn, Texas and LSU. Texas and LSU play each other twice, that may end up being a big deal. No SEC team is deeper than Tenn this year, that usually means a bunch. You have the right coach now, just seems like a matter of time tbh.

Beers (and Verhulst) out performing her right now. I hope OU didn't actually write that check for Chavez. Maybe I'm a hater. Wasn't that just rumor anyway?

I don't see OU being a legitimate threat this season. They will remain in the bottom half of the SEC. Edit: they will BE in the bottom half. IMHO.
Can I hold you to that prediction Maple? That OK “will Be in the bottom half” of the SEC this year? I’d love to make a wager on that one. Just for edification, that would mean they finish #9/16 or lower. Friendly wager?

Well, Missouri won the first game of the season, with a couple of clutch plays at the end. Kellie looked great, and the team is coming together. I feel like I’ve waited almost 2 years for this game, so I’m happy. The next game is on Thursday on ESPN+, so I’ll buy that subscription. Hope everyone’s team can stay injury free and healthy this year. Let the games begin!

It should be fairly easy to find those live streamed on youtube. Id try before busting on that subscription. 😉🤙🏼🧡

As someone who wants WBB to flourish, I have to give a shoutout to Iowa's fans. According to The Athletic, they had sold out their 15,000-seat arena for the entire season again two years removed from Clark. Their social media team presence on sites such as Instagram is larger than that of the combined total of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most popular Big Teams per social media following. You don't have to be a Hawkeyes fan to appreciate this level of support.

Thanks, checked, I see the free one week trial, but Missouri has 4 games on ESPN+ with last one on December 14, and also, TN has 2 games on ESPN+, so looks like I’ll need the subscription for 2 months. Appreciate the thought, anyway, if the free trial is what you had in mind. 🙂

Not youtube tv. Youtube.com. The internet streamz… the only access i don't have covered for UT sports is espn+, so it hasn’t been often I've used that route myself.

Syracuse looked much better tonight in their game against better (yes, really) competition in Stonybrook. Their offense looked more fluid, they were running sets, etc. Defense also looked solid. Some letdowns on either end and for a minute in Q3 they looked like they were going to let Stonybrook back into the game ... but in the end, Syracuse put down the hammer and won as they should have.

I do think Coach Jack needs to let the starters just stay out there and keep the offense flowing. Phelia was the only starter who played 30+ minutes. Darius, tied for the second highest scorer, only played 22. Off the bench, Hawkins played 21 and lead the team in points. Burrows did not have a great game -- I would honestly replace Burrows with Hawkins as a starter. That probably won't happen, but ... maybe ...

For those asking about Phelia, I thought she played well. Eye test only, she looks like Syracuse's best player. She's not Dyaisha Fair, but she's solid. Stat line is okay: 12 pts / 5 rebounds / 4 assists / 3 steals and 1 block and TO each. Only 1-5 from 3pt, which needs improvement. (To be fair though, Syracuse's 3pt % for this game was a dismal 8.3%!!!!!)

Stonybrook got 2 more FT attempts but made 1 less of them. Kind of a funny stat. The Orange absolutely dominated on the boards 52-27!! Rebounding should make up for poor shooting in most games. Against superior ACC opponents however, I'm not sure it's sustainable at all. We will see. Next up is UAlbany (a team absolutely STACKED with international students) who played them tough last year.

Anybody look at the LSU non conference schedule she is playing all no bodies except for a road game at Duke. They will get a one or two seed out of that depending on how they play in the SEC.
Yes, it's frustrating to watch them do this every year. Their record is practically flawless because of it. They're a good team, but no one will know how good they actually are until January. To each their own I guess

i never bother to look, because if i know one things it’s that mulkey is going to schedule the easiest OOC schedule there is. lsu is a very good team, its just a shame mulkey won’t allow us to see them against competition.

The last 2 years the season tickets have been sold out completely for LSU. Despite probably having the this year, it looks like they didn't sell out of tickets this year. In this economy, I imagine there are some that don't want to spend a bunch of money of a season with so many 40-to-80-point whippings. I can't wait to next year when the LVs may get UCLA, UCONN, a possible big 10 team in the SEC-Big 10 event, and then LSU, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma at home. We'll see what happens to our season tickets then!!
