Outgoing Transfer Portal...

Unless Merck declares his intentions prior to the bowl game, being #2 I'd expect to see a bit of him ???

I honestly think we would end up rolling with G-Mac if Joey were to suffer a significant injury at any point in the remaining 3 games. I think Merk is listed as No. 2 because he has more experience in the offense and because Heup tends to go with seniority. In a true QB competition leading up to the bolw game, I think G-Mac would take the W.

Highly possible. And I respect being loyal to seniority, right up to hte point that the younger is clearly better. With respect to this year tho, it probably didn't matter too mcuh who was 2 or 3. Neither was gonna play an awful lot. The mop up duty games were during my saturday work hours and on channels I don't get, so I actually saw neither in action. Can't say if one is legit better or if they are fairly equal. Only remark i've seen on VN about Merck being #2 is because GMac needs to eat more pasta so he don't get killed. But, if GMac is indeed so much better, he should have been #2 regardless. And he's only tempororay for a season, maybe 2 if he's lucky, if Faizon pans out as highly touted as he is. How long does he wait behind either of the other two? Good thing we got Morrison (??) at #4. lol.

I was rather impressed with the young crew starting in saturdays game. Thought we looked greatly improved over recent weeks.

Mike Matthews will bargain for a deal that we can't offer and likely leave for another school .. someone is going to offer him crazy money

Man I hope not. Hopefully he realizes that he will likely be WR1 next year and that between him, Staley and Keys they will be an elite group again. I remember last season he entered the portal because of playing time, which he’s gotten more than enough this season.

I've noticed all year that players don't speak to him during warmups. Not sure if we can read anything into it or not but I mention it to my husband every game.

I suspect there’s more to the summer drama than just him skipping summer workouts to go to California. After the Nico debacle I think that loyalty is big with this squad, which hopefully plays into the portal this winter and the majority of them stay.

Who do we lose before next year?

Boo
CBs
OL (Sanders making playing time difficult for upperclassmen)

Who else y'all got?
I think that depends on how heavy they see the need to hit the portal for experience. They will have 65 freshmen and sophomores next season. If they wish to bring in more experience then some of those young players likely need to go.

SEC has not determined, that I’ve seen, if they are going to 105 or staying at 85 scholarships. Saves a lot of money staying at 85.

So hard to say who they lose. Depends on roster mix strategy

Boo as was true for Nico but more so- may find his NIL value is considerably lower than he believes. There will always be players like this who through immaturity, toxic handlers or personal problems squander huge opportunities. Maybe Deion will float him a lifeline but that could be a dead end. Vols should easily replace Boo with a quality ballplayer with high motivation.
Boo is Jaylen Hurd and will end up the same way

Why would GMac leave. He knew he was going to redshirt this year coming in. He can play the last 3 games and our bowl game and still keep his redshirt. The sky is the limit for him here
If Heupel goes to the portal for an experienced QB, G-Mac might fear losing the competition for QB1. If he does, he's got to fear losing out to Faizon the next year for QB1.

If Heupel doesn't go to the portal for experience and Merk leaves, we have to roll with an untested G-Mac or true FR Faizon at QB.

That's a lot of pressure on G-Mac either way.

Boo is definitely gone and at this point it's for the best...but he'll go somewhere and play offense and we'll see what could have been...
Boo reminds me of Antonio Brown. Phenomenal talent, but dead from the neck up.

There’s a reason why he never lasted long at one place in high school, a reason why he will likely leave UT after this season, and a reason why he will be a nomad in the NFL for as long as he lasts. Assuming he gets drafted.

Boo is gone. Saw it Saturday during warm ups. He has one foot out the door already. He had a bad fumble on a punt but recovered it. 🤦😑 💩

Edit- he didn’t play one snap on Defense. Poor attitude and again, one foot out the door. I didn’t see one player say a word to him during warmups.

He’s gonna be surprised to find out how low his stock is now with this season’s tape. Momma Boo gonna lose money.

He has suitors. There are coaches who think they can get him back to last yr. He’s wanted out since summer.

Now it’s mutual. He may not play another down for tn.

We'll always have guys that are encouraged to look elsewhere. As for high profile/starting types, I'm gonna go with:

Boo
Gibson
Matthews
Merklinger

Kinda think Gilbert might consider a fresh start as well....if he can find a suitable landing spot.

If he finds a suitable landing spot I bet he misses it wide.

Nobody really knows until the game is played. Of the 3 we expect to be on roster, merk is most ready based on time.
I’d prefer to go with skill over time. Merk doesn’t have all that much in-game time.

I’d assume start gmac.

One of them should have had playing time in the Kentucky game. CJH is at a fault for not giving backup QBs more time.

Doesn't matter what you or I assume, tbh.
