Windy's football discussion thread.

I mean technically you could say that about a lot of people. Orgeron lucked into a championship because of Burrow
It’s true of a lot of coaches. You have to be good enough to be in the conversation but the ball takes funny bounces. You can usually find a win or two along the way that makes a championship. Those that win multiple times seriously reduce the likelihood it was luck.

Majors had trouble playing the best players over loyalty to those who “paid their dues.” He did win a title……with Tony Dorset.
But he was a great football coach. I along with everyone else would get frustrated as hell with him, f’ing 3rd down quick kicks, but he knew how to head coach. In that era, would never work now.

And one player does not win a championship. And Dorsett is in my top 5 favorite football players.
True but they don’t win it without him.
And we’re back to being in the area and things going your way. I remember Majors pretty well. And I don’t think he should have been fired when he was. But clearly he had lost the team to Fulmer when out recovering from the heart attack.

He was pissed at UT for a long time and I don’t blame him

I’m thinking that there wasn’t the limit on scholarships that’s in place now, and Majors’ Pitt team was stacked with talent the year they were selected as National Champions.
