If We Beat Florida & Go 9-3 Is The Season Still Acceptable?

I can live with that if we are playing guys who will be on the team next year. I will have zero sympathy or love lost for Heupel if he loses those games with our normal starters.

I can handle going 7-5 playing for the future. Can’t handle 7-5 with our normal starters who won’t be here next year and we have crap QB play in 2026. This is the 2023 season all over again.
I gotta stop by Home Depot and buy a bucket tomorrow. If it plays out that way, I’m going to be puking for a week.

No. Florida isn’t ranked. We absolutely should beat them. If we don’t however, and get beat by Vandy at home, things could get ugly on Rocky Top
We are not going to beat the gators and we are going to lose to Vandy. We can’t beat anyone that is even remotely competitive. We have struggled against every team this year but the cupcakes.

In today 12 probably going to 16 team playoff. Getting too the playoffs at least 3 out of every 5 years is going to be the bar. If we can’t finish in the top 12-16 3 out of every 5 years it isn’t going to be acceptable. GBO

My preseason expectations were 8-4 with losses to UGA, Bama, Florida, and either Arkansas or Oklahoma. Three on my list have happened (unfortunately). I did not think Vandy would be this good, so I didn’t have that on my list.

If we go 9-3 with our injuries and what we lost from last year senior wise, I think this season is a great season. 8-4 is what I expected . . . But losing to Vandy or UF will stink.

I think our chance to beat Vandy is 50/50 just like the Oklahoma game.

I think we lose to UF, but that’s my thought because we are not a good road team and we never pkay well there.

I will be shocked if this team finished 9-3. I expect 8-4. 7-5 won’t surprise me.
7-5 we can’t beat any competitive team

you are either #thetwelve or you are nothing. that's the reality going forward.

9-3 might make you "feel" better but functionally it's no different than 7-5.

I struggle with this. I’m not sure what there is to look forward to next year. We have no idea who the QB will be. We have two 4:5 star guys sitting on the bench who will be competing for the starting spot.

Hopefully Staley and Matthews stay here with the uncertainty around the QB position.

We could have a great glimpse at our QB situation for 2026 in these final 4 games.
I hope the new quarterback will be a lot more skilled than Joey. But it will be his first time running plays. Probably equate to better on the field results. Kind of looking forward to that in ‘26-27.

In all fairness they took uga to the end and we aren’t ranked either…or shouldn’t be…haven’t see. If we play like sat night we will score another L.

I think we split…lose to UF and beat Vandy.

Hard to accept right now, but I think the mood changes drastically if we finish out with no more losses including a bowl win. Just gotta let the repurcussions of missing the playoffs sink in for a little. But just a win in Gainesville will give something for this fanbase to cling on to and point to as imorovement.

This will be the worst team they have fielded in years, if not decades, that we will play in the Swamp
It doesn't matter how bad Florida is. If Florida plays like they did against UGA, it could be a very bad day. No matter, I don't have the warm and fuzzy feelings that UT can beat Florida

Let me frame the “nightmare scenario” for you…

What happens when a 4-6 UF team with an interim HC beats UT, followed by the most obnoxious player in college football striking the Heisman pose in Neyland Stadium after he leads his team to a win?
That UF team and their interim coach gave Georgia all they could handle, just like we did… but both lost to the dogs.
It’s pretty damn twisted when our only possible victory over a ranked team this season would be IF ..( BIG if..) we manage to somehow beat VANDY..!!! 🙀.

9 - 3 would be a good year, considering the pre-season and considering where the program was at pre-Josh.

I’m sorry but why are we using the state of the program that Heupel took over as the measuring stick? It only took him 2 seasons to turn it around. With that great season, he raised the expectations. People using 2020 as the measuring stick need to stop sunshine pumping

After the Nico debacle, I was expecting a less than optimal season. When the season started and the offense showed that it could function at a high level and eat up some yards and put some points on the board, my expectations grew. After last night, the only way to salvage the year is to be Florida and Vandy. What I was not expecting to do this season is start to doubt the coach. I am not jumping on board the Heupel out train...not yet...but I am shocked at how little he has grown/matured at game management and discipline. In years past we have been blown out by opponents. It is frustrating this year to watch the Vols be the better team and shoot itself in the foot because of play calls, penalties, and just plain old bad football. I was willing to give some grace before the season began and I will but next year that is gone. Heupel has beat Alabama and Florida while here and he turned us from the dumpster fire that we were to what we are now. He should have beat Georgia this year. If next year is like this year, Heupel should be on the hot seat.

Acceptable? no. The reality of NCAA football now is you make the CFP or you are nothing.

Will I be happy about draining the swamp and be willing to give Heupel and team due credit for that? Absolutely.
Well, we might as get use to a lot of being nothing. In the last 73 years since the 1951 National Championship we have only been ranked in the top 12 (AP) -- 21 times in that time frame. That leaves 52 years of being nothing. Its a shame that the reality has come to that.
