Back when Nico left. He said the people celebrating the stance coach took will be singing a different song come mid fall.

And he was right. I know there is more to the story than just that. There are sprinkles of questionable play calls, poor clock management, failure to change out coaches who are in over their head etc. But he was spot on all the same.

With a great quarterback this year to complement what turned out to be a really good wide receiver corp, a lot of warts we saw may have never came to light. Not that Nico would have been a sure thing, but it’s a point worth examining. Had our offense been lights out, our defense would have had an easier go at it. We also wouldn’t have seen so many questionable decision making situations because the score might not have allowed for it.

We have a good class coming in next year. We just may be close to turning that corner. Let’s hope we can all hang on and that it does pan out in the end. Lord knows we could use it.

Nico can kick rocks. Him and his egocentric dipshit dad.

And Urban Meyer’s opinion on Tennessee football means about as much to me as OJ’s opinion on healthy relationships.

The thing that keeps the sane segment of us from singing a “different tune” now about the way Heupel handled the Nico situation is the fact that Nico sucks and Joey Aguilar is exponentially better.

Joey’s worst performance of the season came against OU last night. And it was still as good as or better than Nico’s typical performance this season.

So no, we’re not singing a different tune. Heupel did the right thing. The program should not be held hostage by any single player. And certainly not one who sucks at playing football.

Lol, not having Nico as QB has contributed exactly 0 to why we have lost games this season.

This. And I’d rather us lose all the games than be held hostage too.

He's assuming Nico would be playing better, which is a pretty huge assumption. If anything I think JA is showing Nico wasn't that great to begin with, and Nico is proving he needs a great supporting cast to be even good levels. Nico is not a difference maker by himself.

If anything, Nico has proven that he needs a quality coaching staff to develop him.

Anyone saying Nico wouldn’t have developed in a 3rd year under Heupel is saying more about Heupel’s ability as a coach and QB developer than it is about Nico. Aguilar does thing Nico can’t. Nico does things Aguilar can’t. Gained a deep ball thrower but lost a mobile QB

Nah. Lots to criticize regarding the choke jobs that we’ve seen (x3) this season, but regretting letting Nico go isn’t one of them.

We’d have the same record or worse with him. The difference is that we’d have 3+ conference kisses AND have an entitled, over-hyped NIL-sucking cancer on the team. Worse, we’d have his dad/agent running his mouth.

I totally disagree. Nico would’ve turned if over last night and take more sacks. He would’ve bounced back after the turnovers

I was @ the game and saw Joey go thru three progressions on many occasions. Our wide receiver ls were NOT open so Joey checked down. Nico rarely went beyond his first progression as he could not see the field.

Joey has double the TDs and yards of Nico this year. We didn’t lose anything

Nico wouldn’t be dropping dimes downfield like Aguilar has often. And he sure as hell wouldn’t make some of the throws under Pressure Joey has either.

Lol are you joking?

He also since said he was wrong and that we got the better end of the deal.

This team with Nico would be 4-5

Joey is still better than Nico.

This is the first game we were reminded of what Joey was when he was recruited - a gunslinger who could both win and lose you games. He had the most INTs in all of CFB last year. And you saw why in this game.

People are going to blame Heupel, but his coaching this game was great. We just didn't execute. Joey made 3 big mistakes, which killed us. To his credit, he played brilliantly in the last few minutes, but just too little too late. And we probably loss to Miss State with Nico --- Georgia also blows us out with Nico. Nico definitely loses this game --- we mostly won last year with the run game and Oklahoma stymied the run.

Didn't help that "Hot Pants" on the Oklahoma sideline was hitting every kick, while Gilbert missed a 37 yarder.

No one should've expected a playoff run this year given our losses on defense, injuries to key players, having to pull a QB out of the portal in the spring, and having one of the youngest rosters in the SEC. I said at the beginning of the year 7-5/8-4 should be the expectation given what we have this year. Right now, that's about where we're tracking. If we somehow go 9-3, Heupel has exceeded expectations.

Troll job. Just look at Nico and Joey's stats this season. Aguilar has had an all SEC type season thus far. His stats were crazy last night, but his turnovers lost Tennessee the game

You said we lost a mobile QB. I was simply stating I don’t think we lost anything with Nico

Nico is averaging 50 yards a game rushing. Joey is averaging 9 yards a game rushing.

Clearly we lost a mobile QB but gained a deep ball thrower. This doesn’t have be a debate or argument. It’s just data.
