I hate that we beat ourselves but IMO it was the players not the coaches. Players turned the ball over 3 times and gave up several sacks. In Joeys defense...both picks were bad decisions on his part...BUT Joey stood in there and delivered all game while getting hit. Hard sometimes. That was a dirty personal foul too when the guy hit him in the neck/head on purpose late too. It wasnt his best game vs the best defense in the SEC but he played pretty well. Too many drops by WRs AND TEs.
We will be a better team next year from all these freshmen playing so much. Looks to me like Coach Inge has some tough decisions to make. Arion carter is too hurt to be playing...and the freshmen are much better and faster than Telander and hes a team captain.Spillman made BIG plays again and Perlotte made several plays that neither hurt Carter or Telander could have made because theyre too slow. Speed at LB makes this defense much better. Redmond has improved a lot this year at Corner and IF Hood comes back then Gibson will have his hands full beating out Redmond for the other starting Cornerback slot next year IMO
I would counter by saying we lost 2 of our games by single possessions and that NIL comes with a volatile culture we still aren't entirely attuned to.
We're probably only beginning to see the negative side of NIL exacerbated by the portal. More and more teams are going to be thin with respect to good backups when the starters are hurt or worn down. Several of the historically top teams stayed that way with benches full of talent. There were two sides - not much drop off when the starter was out, and it kept key talent out of the hands of the next level teams. That probably has a lot to do with some of the record breaking coach firings this year, too. Then again some of that is people believing that a big name mediocre coaches like Jimbo and Kelley are worthy high priced purchases. Without the portal and NIL spreading talent around, they and others would likely have bumped along winning enough to keep pitchforks out of the hands of the villagers. I still think Saban saw the writing on the wall, and decided he wanted no part of it.
You also have to wonder just how much having hefty bank accounts affects players, too. It was probably better when Cassius had a lean and hungry look than loads of money and distractions.

I hope the coaches can find a way to get all the issues resolved in the future. Right now, it seems we improve one issue to the detriment of others. And one of those was a crap call against Perlotte when he pushed the receiver out of bounds and was flagged unnecessarily for unnecessary roughness. A lot to criticize in the loss but not many penalties.
I’ve said that time and time again. It was quite an underwhelming performance by the black clad orangemen and their coaches.
