Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Do you ever get tired of pontificating your useless opinions?? Oh wait you are neighbors with Vols who played on the field so that gives you credibility. Hint: you really make this place unbearable Please take another vacation as you will not be missed.
Lol! Little ignore button works. Use it. And yes, it is awesome having a former player who is in the hall of fame at Tennessee as my neighbor. Would you like to meet him? I can guarantee if you don’t like my comments, you would hate his. VFLs are no joke when it comes to football and how they look on the field. His best friend is Al Wilson if that tells you what position he played. But I’ll gladly leave. Peace

Here is where I am at. Every year we have disappointing losses.

2024 - Arkansas (might be the worst we've experienced) and the debacle at Ohio State (didn't show up).
2023 - Blowout at Missou (defense) and mistakes at Florida
2022 - South Carolina blowout loss (defense)
2021 - Purdue (defense)

This loss felt like 2023 Florida where we were up against a high school offense (with limited QB) and couldn't win. BUT this was at home and is completely unacceptable. Mistakes and turnovers. This Oklahoma offense might only be rivaled by Auburn and Kentucky in terms of bottom dwelling in the SEC. They are a one read QB run offense. Similar to what most high school teams run. And guess what? We couldn't stop it in the second half. I agree with the poster that said Oklahoma tried to keep us in the game (late interception). Their fumble was a great play by Farooq. This defense is historically poor.

We are currently at the Ole Miss level (but a few years behind). We will have an occasional blow out win, bad loss, and a bunch of close wins where our offense outscores opponents. We are not a balanced team. If the other team has a decent QB, they will be in the game.

All that said, I will be very optimistic if we can do two things in 2026.

1) Get a competent DC and staff.
2) Have a statistical coach 100% responsible for creating gameplans late in half
3) Get a real special team's coach (we have dropped off significantly here)

If CJH makes these changes, we can build. If not, it will be the same moving forward. Exciting games, a few big wins, a few frustrating losses, but undisciplined and capable of keeping lesser teams in games.

Seems like a lot of posters are out on Heupel or think the team won’t get any better. Ok, say Heupel were to bolt this season for another job.

Who realistically would come to Tennessee?

I planned on avoiding this place like the plague for the foreseeable future. Then I realized we are better than we should be, considering the off-season drama. I hate the losses, because I believed in the "fairy tale" this season would be if we just kept winning. It feels worse because we are 2 dang kicks away from being in the front of that fairy tale story. The truth is, few other coaches in the country could take this off-season roster turnover and be competing for a playoff spot in the 2nd half of the season. The truth is, with a mediocre coach, we're sitting at 4-5, maybe worse.

We all knew this was gonna be a down year. I just hope some of the fans realize that we're actually playing above our heads everywhere on the field except special teams and some defense. Fans should still be thanking Heupel, because instead of bitching about a 3rd loss, we'd be getting embarrassed by another 7 loss season.
You're being way too rational this morning Enki. Catching up this morning before I go to church and I realize that if you are Heupel and have someone approach you about an opportunity you have to at least listen to reset your clock. Fans have lost their minds and have unreasonable expectations. Expecting us to qualify for the playoffs every year is fantasy land. Look at the teams in the SEC that have equal or better resources. Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma and Auburn. The traditional bottom feeders also have more resources than they ever have. I didn't even put in Ole Miss and they are spending like crazy in the portal. It's just not reasonable to expect Tennessee to be in the playoffs every year. The real question is, if you decide to replace Heupel can you realistically expect to hire a better coach and I would suggest that the answer is NO. This place is toxic and could go off the rails if we lose another game or two. Also, our schedule is much harder next year with the extra SEC game and breaking in a very young quarterback. I hope we opt for stability and don't join in the circus of searching for super coach, as we have tried that strategy and it wasn't fun. Off to church and more important things in life.

The writing is on the wall for Heupel. He’ll be given a chance to fix it this offseason but a repeat **** 8-4 year next year I think he’s gone IMO. And our schedule is twice as hard next year.

He’s lost any goodwill with the fans and there are massive red flags with him. He needs to hire actual coaches and hire someone specifically for clock management assistance.
He's safe as long as we're on probation, IMO. After that, we'll see.

I dont think we can move on from Heupel......especially this year. I have lost a lot of faith in him though with this loss and some game management decisions that are just head scratchers to me. Realistically we could not afford to fire him this year especially with all of the openings in CFB this year.

Rushing offense last night.

35 carries for 63 yards.. I'm not a College graduate but I know that's totally unacceptable.. less than 2 yards per carry..good grief.
that's the one thing this year that i do not understand. my biggest gripe with this staff is it seems that they cannot be consistently good on any one side of the ball. I get attrition. When do they put it together? We know we need a big time back, but it takes us 3 years to land one.

We are young, we are talented. But we arent talented enough. Recruiting has to be better, period.

The DC has to get off his ass.

Happy Sunday. Lol maybe a fitting message after yesterday.

November 2, 2025: For those who seem to be discombobulated, take this time to rest and regroup. The adjustments that you have to make for this season will soon become part of your daily routine. Be good to yourself and kind to others as well. Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you
