Cooper and Boyd were both Harper recruits. They were here while Harper was coaching but were not playing (redshirt). Everyone else is CKC. Nothing against Wynn but she not only missed the entire rim on about half jump shots but also missed the entire backboard on several different occasions. She makes cooper look like a 3 pt shooter. She seems like a great girl, but I am highly confident she won’t help us this year.
That is harsh. Wynn was very unpolished as a freshman but she got better in each successive season. By her junior year, she was making plays on offense and did a decent job as a back up PG. Her injury timing was terrible because she would have had an important role last season. With the talent infusion, it is possible she gets pushed down the rotation but again you never know, injuries could scramble things; some freshmen might have a longer adjustment phase.

I am really excited to see a box score again. I know its an exhibition game and it's Columbus State but still super excited to see what talent all the freshman have and what the new transfers bring to the table even if in small doses. Plus the improvement from the veteran players. Not to mention my Blue Jays playing Game 5 in the World Series.

I agree that we never know how rotations will play out. It is a fact that her career 3 pt % is 13%. She seems like a great teammate and person, but I also think that it’s okay to admit that’s she’s an offensive liability.

15.6 actually. 5/32 in three years. Pretty small sample size. I doubt she was ever encouraged to shoot with those numbers. I see it as an opportunity for growth.

Her real value will be as a defensive stopper. We’ll see.

Wynn is a track athlete playing basketball! A pentalathon champion…. She will be ripping and running…. Slicing and dicing. That’s her game . Kinda like the now coaches game plan! 🤔

She will need an improved shot to play a lot, but I expect her to definitely get a few minutes a game more if she can shoot the ball effectively and score points.

I think we can get 40 turnovers tonight. I know that sounds crazy, but exactly what I am expecting to happen. I am looking for us to get up somewhere close to 90 to 100 shots in this game. Tennessee 143 Columbus St 48 I hope they don't score 48 that is more based on last seasons defense. I would like to see them score 29.

I really don't think defense has as much to do with it as number of possessions with shots. VOLS play so fast give the other teams so many more chances. Points per game is not a good indicator with the way we play offense. The sheer number of opportunities are increased with the speed we play the game. Margin of victory would be a better indicator than points allowed.

The main problem last season was teams beating the press for layups and we fouled to much. Shots on goal given up were not that bad as always turned teams over a lot. Defensive field goal percentage was a huge problem mainly because we were giving up several layups out of bad traps and in many cases defenders that could not guard one on one. I expect defense to be a lot better and sure if we get up 100 shots other team should get 55 to 60 so they only have to make 25 to get to 50 points or more.

Also Wynn is in her last year of eligibility. The nod for minutes should and will always go to younger players. Could be wrong but I don't see Kaiya having a huge role this year.

This is why I hate these games. Im looking forward to seeing the new players for the first time, but other than that i'm just waiting for a real game to break out next Tuesday.

True this is going to be a pound job from start to finish and we won't learn a thing about the team really. I don't think Columbus State is quite as good as Carson Newman was last season so we'll see. I am just glad to watch a game again and like you said the new players.

That is one thing i remember about her defense. She could really close quickly for steals.

Points per possession would be a good number to check out as the year progresses.

We average 80 possessions per game last season so 1.2 points per possession would win most of the game as that is 96 points. We were not a consistent 80 possession per game team we would get over 90 in some games and against some SEC team in the 60's as they slowed down the game and we were no turning them over as much because of their talent. 68.1 Free throw percentage was the ugliest part of our offensive game need to see that rise to 75 percent. .439 from the field overall and .325 from the three. Those are not real bad numbers. The 68 from the line loses you a couple points a game or more depending on how many times you get to the line.

Only plus three in rebounding per game average like to see that go way up to like 10. No way were not a better defensive team just to many incoming players with exceptional speed over players that left.

Columbus State does come ranked # 24 in the rankings, whereas Carson Newman is not ranked nor receiving points, so at least a step up in competition from that standpoint. Pumped to see all the new piecces tonight!
Carson Newman is ranked higher by Massey number 39 to Columbus State 101 although I suspect Columbus State to be more athletic but not as good from three as Carson Newman.

The goal of CKC’s system is to get more shots than opponents. You generate more shots through offensive rebounds and turnovers. Trading an even number of possessions with opponents slows down the game tempo and gets the game more into half court sets.
