Interesting. In South Asian cultures those people are all aunties and plenty of non-blood relatives are too
my dads cousin works pretty good. I never really understood the way it works, but I think the technical phrasing gets into some of the cousin "once removed", or stuff like that. What do conservatives call their dad's cousin? Is it not your aunt or uncle? Do you just address them by their first name?
I think that is confusing because what would you then call your dad's aunt that is the mother to your dad's female cousin that you call "aunt"?I agree, and I think a lot of people just say aunt/uncle to skip all of that
Isn't a dad's aunt a great-aunt or something anyway? For me it's less confusing to call everyone at my parents' level, whether it's their brothers or their cousins, "uncle/aunt." I know which ones are the actual siblingsI think that is confusing because what would you then call your dad's aunt that is the mother to your dad's female cousin that you call "aunt"?
"cousin" is what my family does. not technically correct, but easier than trying to remember if they are second cousins or once removed or whatever.
changing the relation completely seems the most confusing option. but that is one person/cultures answer.
