Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I would love to steal some players from LSU's class, unfortunately, the guys I would want for us are actually from LA so are probably gonna stay home no matter what.

Worst AD in college history?

LSU AD Woodward is responsible for hiring Jimbo Fischer at A&M and Brian Kelly at LSU. He should never work at a university for another day in his life.

Won 2 baseball championships and a women's basketball championship during his tenure. Hired both coaches. Win some lose some.

My comment had nothing to do with that. It has to do with his gross incompetence in having two universities shell out over $125 million for two football coaches. Hopefully somebody out there is ensuring there are no kickbacks.

I tried to illustrate this the other day when so many baseball fans were lashing out at Danny White when Tony was still up in the air. We are so fortunate to have an AD who is good at his job and wants to compete for championships in all sports. Look around the country at some of these schools with entrenched ADs that are highly unpopular with the fan base. Those fans are sometimes really confused why the AD who hired the guy he just fired gets to hire the next guy too!

My response was regarding the worst AD in history question. While hindsight is 20:20, those were solid hires at the time. One guy had a recent chip and the other guy had 5 straight 10+ win seasons. Never thought Kelly would fit at LSU but I understood the hire.

I never heard about this one.

During LSU's bye week, rumors started to circulate that rather than going on the road to recruit or working on gameplanning, Brian Kelly took a beach vacation with his “faaammm ahh leee.” On Sunday night, Josh Pate is said to have confirmed the rumors.

Following his mid-season vacay, LSU was outclassed by Vanderbilt and Texas A&M in consecutive weeks.

LSU athletic director Scott Woodward announced the news in a statement.

“When Coach Kelly arrived at LSU four years ago, we had high hopes that he would lead us to multiple SEC and national championships during his time in Baton Rouge,” Woodward said in a release. “Ultimately, the success at the level that LSU demands simply did not materialize, and I made the decision to make a change after last night’s game. I am grateful for the ongoing consultations and support of the LSU Board of Supervisors and Interim President Matt Lee in this decision.

Here is my Tim Banks take. I think he has earned another year to right the ship.

He came into a dumpster fire on defense in 2021 and has shown improvement year over year with the culmination of an ELITE defense in 2024. We don't win 10 games without that defense.

We all knew there would be some regession from the 2024 team but this degree of slippage is unfathomable. Doesn't help that our best cover corner hasn't played a snap or our 2nd best corner has only played 1 quarter this year. On top of Hobbs missing the first 6 games and Moi getting hurt the 1st defensive possession of the season and the next 3 games. Not ideal.

Some people believe its the personnel more so than the coordinator. While I do believe that's part of the reason we haven't played well, ultimately, it all falls on the guy who is calling the defense lap. We have been cheeks on defense this year. All criticism is fair imo. I'm in the camp that we are who we are at this point and only hope we can fix it next year similar to how our offense has right(ed) the ship this year.

Only time will tell.
