Yep. It's that way in every sport. And just like clockwork, the fans want a hire that might "save a class". Just not a wise move especially with the portal being such a huge factor year in and year out. We need the best guy we can find, but White won't pay enough to get him. He will do what he's done before. He will grab a comfort hire or roll the dice and hope he's found a diamond in the rough. I see is settling in with programs like UGA and UK in this league. Without Vitello, we aren't going to run with programs like LSU on a regular basis. One thing is certain, if we ever do get another star like that on campus, I'd wager the fans will appreciate it far more the next time around. Doubt I love to see it, but...Kids committed to Vitello, not Tennessee. Can't blame them.
Exactly correctFor me, it is like you have had a set of coaches that are very successful. One moves up to the big league. The staff member's he has been training, if they want to stay, should be given the first consideration.
If you fire a coach for not being successful - yes you definitely look external.
There is no reason whatsoever that Elander should not end up with the job if he wants it.
I’m more interested to see what comes out about the player’s council who White claims will have significant input on the process. Hard for me to see those guys not being overwhelmingly behind Elander. It will surprise me if Elander gets the job, not saying he want .....but......I believe DW is looking for his guy...

I concur. Could be great; could be a one-hit wonder. Too early to know.I think Schnall did a great job last year, but his resume is near identical to Elander with the exception of 1 year of head coaching experience. They had a very favorable path to the CWS as well, so I’m not sold that he can do that repeatedly which is now the standard here at Tennessee.
When did Todd Raleigh ever have a team playing for a national title? Asinine comparison.Vaughn is the only other listed candidate that could keep this rolling. Elander might even stay if Vaughn was the coach. Coastal coach is not a really likeable guy and hard to deal with. No thanks. Don’t need Todd Raleigh 2.0.
The players council is a we’re going to let you think that you have a say and a voice, but then the big boys are gonna do what they want. I am guessing like every administrator. He has people on there that he knows well either agree with him or not come out and be vocal if he goes against him. At least that’s what I would do.

He did the player council with the football and Lady Vol hire as well. I know you and everybody associated with the baseball program hates DW and think he’s done nothing for the program. However, how about we see who gets hires before kicking him to the curb. The players council is a we’re going to let you think that you have a say and a voice, but then the big boys are gonna do what they want.
