Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

Times have changed. Far more women’s games are on TV now so the Revenue is up. Ticket prices are more. I’m a baseball guy but WBB will come far closer to being in the black than baseball ever will.
do some research on revenue.....

Women's basketball lost a cool $7 million loss in Fiscal Year 2023-2024......

Baseball had only a loss of $3.2 million loss in 2024 Fiscal Year......

I could've sworn last I saw of him, he was getting into politics, no?
Well he was, but he has some baggage. He founded a video game company that fleeced the state of Rhode Island and the taxpayers for right at 100 million. Lots of crazy, lowlife stuff with that saga.

And he’s just known as an unbearable ass.

The women’s program tanked in 23-24 after 10 years of mediocrity. Baseball probably had its best financial year in ‘24.

The women’s program at its peak can easily sell 12k+ season tickets along increased TV revenue. And a much smaller roster.

I hate to see him go but wishing him well. Grateful he lead UT to a Natty, brought VOL baseball to relevancy & a program good coaches will be interested in taking. A bit surprised Elander didn’t get interim since he’s so involved with the guys & such a good recruiter (who would probably be moving on to a head coaching position soon). I would think that would help a lot with keeping those guys around. I really don’t think this is going to drop us to being irrelevant but we probably won’t start out as Natty contenders every year like we did with TV. Thanks for the program you built & everything that came with it!

That’s beside the point. My understanding is that many schools are treating 5% to women’s basketball as a “best practice” (quasi industry standard), presumably for Title IX purposes and because there is some “safety in numbers” element to adopting the 75/10/5/5 split. (In theory, Title IX could be interpreted much more onerously.)

I’m not surprised. New coach, not competitive for 10 years.

You really think the WBB program can not outperform baseball in the long term?
maybe, but Tony's impact on Tennessee and its fans is easily 100x anything Kimmy can do. It's more than Summit did in her heyday.

You’re just not going to convince me that a national search that ends up with us hiring the Oregon or Kansas head coach, two of the reported top targets, is a more sure thing for this program in finding success than simply promoting the guy who helped build this program and recruited the elite talent on the way.
Both of those would be underwhelming. Unless it’s someone like the Coastal coach or Link Jarrett, you promote Elander. Period. I’m exhausted with project hires.

I can not be mad at TV. I just can't. He took a dumpster and turned it into a championship program. Am I sad that is gone? Yes. However, I wish him the best. For whatever reason he decided to leave, he left. I hope he finds what he is looking for.
For the people that are trashing him, just stop. Please, you look like a jackass.
The sun will rise tomorrow and I will still love my Vols. Regardless of who the coach is.

I dont think Tony's impact on baseball can be over stated. 8 years ago I didnt know one single person that had ever watched a Vols baseball game, including my self. Now we have watch party's for games on the wknds. My local little league had multiple teams wearing Vols style black and orange uniforms. My kids think C Mo is the greatest baseball player of all time. I got to meet Tony just a couple times but I feel like I lost a close friend. I really hope Danny didnt do this to us.

It’s because no one did. My uncle ****ing played there and I went to maybe a game a year with him and my dad. Usually there were 50 people in attendance, us included, and sometimes there were canned food drives where we got in for soup
