Also...that's something to point out as well.

Baseball just went from 11.7 scholarships to 34... so paying for those 22 extra scholarships is over 700k from the revenue sharing anyway, outside whatever portion of the 5% they were getting...

Men's basketball went from 13 to 15, and Women's basketball stated at 15.

Can't blame TV. Taking your shot in the MLB, and in a big market, he's a huge deal now and gets a massive stage to boom or bust. I think he likes that challenge. And he can afford to live in places like Pacific Heights, Sea Cliff, etc. Must be nice.

Wish him the best. Elander might just crush it. Or we'll go back to forgetting about baseball. My life won't change one bit either way. Gbo.

I don't understand that at all. Frank only wants to coach for a couple more years. It suggests Danny is going to pass over Elander and go outside the program for the hire.
Or he doesn't want Elander as the interim so he can interview to be the permanent replacement. DW almost has to at least go through the motions of a search. I say we chill out and let a proven elite AD do his job and maybe not just assume the worst.

I'm really happy for Tony. Going to "The Show", which I'm sure it's a dream come true.

At the same time I can be sad he's gone.

Just whatever you do... If you find yourself headed back to college baseball... Please don't Saban us by going to somebody we hate.

I want speak fondly of this guy forever. Hope he's super successful in MLB.

Come on. Use that brain of yours. The odds of him succeeding more than 3-4 years are very low. He knows he can pop right back in the college game and pretty much pick where he wants to go. This isn't rocket surgery.
I would suggest looking into Occam’s Razor; might prove to be an interesting concept for you.

Lol, we’ll get another coach.
Hope it’s Elander. Hope he can hold the classes.

But I’m not “happy for” Tony Vitello - he just ditched us in late October.

I’m certainly not gonna wish him “good luck” 😂
I’m going to wish the utmost success and that he has a great 20 year run in MLB. Otherwise he’ll be at Arkansas giving UT headaches in head to head competition and recruiting.

Did he? He gave him money and facilities. He left him alone even when maybe they didn't like each other very much. Truth is we don't (and likely won't) know what Tony's motivation for leaving is, but there is nothing beyond rumors to suggest that DW failed. Again...he left to be the only college coach in history to become the manager of a MLB team. DW has no counter for that, unless the answer was to keep throwing money at him until he couldn't say no.
I wish someone would fail me by making me the highest paid in my profession and build me a park that I want for $110 million. Some of our supposed fans need to get a grip.

Sounds like TV wasn’t happy with the extra spots that the school could pay for. 34 is the scholarship number, but I think you can have 4 more paid by the school (redshirts or injured?). I think DW told TV he could add 2 of those spots if I recall.

December 1 is the deadline to set the roster for the season, and I think I read we currently have 41. There was a suggestion that DW wasn’t happy that 5 would be cut.

I was so excited to visit, I've wanted to go there my whole life..the people in charge have ruined it....just like LA. Both towns are lawless unless you live in the Uber rich posh sections...like Beverly Hills.
Sucks you had those experiences. Been to both multiple times and have had nothing but great, mind opening experiences. I thought LA was just a soulless town, full of soulless people, turns out they have insane local food, vast history, and culture, so granular as to be different neighborhood to neighborhood. Yeah the folks that flock their are shizzy, but overall, it's fantastic with communities that have been there for generations. San Fran is just a lot of fun in general and so many great tour spots. Too cold/north for my liking, but also had a lot of great experiences and met a lot of great people. Not a place I'd live, but wonderful to visit. Again, just my experiences.

And being that close to some insane national parks just tops it off, for both cities. But, bang for my buck, I'd live in San Diego if I were out that far west. Bit more affordable and very warm. Similar to LA in terms of cultural capital. Fewer d-bags.

Absolutely they both have huge egos. Truth of the matter, I know TV wanted nicer facilities but if his perception was lack of resources when it comes to securing the best talent, why hang around? It's about priorities. If you are a great racecar driver, you want to drive the best cars. If other places emphasize it more, what motivation do you have to continue?
He just signed the number 1 class and you think he did that with a lack of resources? You're usually a little more balanced than this Involuntary. Go for a walk and take a deep breath.

Like in most divorces there's usually plenty of blame to go around. It's ashame people can't get out of the way of their own egos to make a good thing better. I'm convinced there has been some rift brewing for a while now. Who's to fault, no one knows?

I'm not big Basilio fan but he was right. If what's been reported that DW wasn't even involved in trying to keep TV, that tells me he was fine with him leaving. If that's the case, then the onus is on him to hire at a level to keep things at the level it is. If he doesn't then he deserves the criticism.

And, to be clear, I'm not off the DW band wagon. As you've said, he's done well. He's hired well, even though we have no championships to show for it, it seems to be on the right track. Those hires were different. Both Caldwell and Heup replaced dumpster fires. He's now got to hire a coach to replace a national championship coach.
He will get criticism if the new baseball coach struggles but as long as football and men’s and women’s bball are good DW will work here for as long as he wants
Grand scheme of things, baseball makes no money for the university and overall it doesn’t make or break a university
People care about football and basketball
Yes you want to be good but it really doesn’t matter with baseball
Ads don’t get fired for bad baseball hires

Not trying to be a dick either

Where has it been reported that DW wasn’t involved in trying to keep him? I’m sorry, but that’s just Qanon level insanity. Unless someone like Chris Low or Thamel reports that, or someone far more reputable than Basilio, then I’ll eat crow. But until I see that, I’m choosing to believe that’s ridiculous.

I think like during our football searches, the talking heads like to spread rumors to get ratings. Also, all those insiders suddenly appear. I'm on the Danny White band wagon. I also agree, Tony had a top recruiting class and he didn't get that by only his good looks and charm. He made a choice to go to the major leagues, and I'm an all sport fan, not just baseball. White has done an amazing job helping to make us a winning everything school. Football and women basketball was awful before he came.

I almost said this earlier. It's absurd that anyone thinks this has anything to do with lack of resources. I think that was entirely overblown and I said it early during this process. Both our portal haul and our recruiting is absolute peak. The resources are going to be there for the next guy too.
