Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

What makes him the best? He has 2 hires to his name here, that’s what ultimately determines success. His hires at UCF, Heupel aside, have been failures. His last baseball hire was fired, by his successor. DW thinks he’s the smartest man in the room when the answer is right in front of him.
Heupel was also the 5th or 6th coach DW offered after others turned us down. Some of those that turned us down have been fired from their jobs since. He inherited the 2 best coaches on campus or as the saying goes DW was born on third base and brags about hitting a triple with the Basketball and Baseball programs. DW is good at raising money but his coaching hires are a crap shoot just like most other ADs in the country.

I think Elander would be the best choice for several reasons. I’m just stating that I bet DW goes after a big name especially since he named FA as interim coach. He should have named Elander as interim but DW admitted he doesn’t have a relationship with him. DW said Elander be under consideration for head coach. Doesn’t seem genuine to me…
Idk how he can see everyone under the sun from Former players, former coaches, current players, fans, etc, all wanting Elander.. and then hiring a Polish guy from Oregon.

But with all the complaining that we seem to do look at the price of a ticket or a season ticket at LSU
Preacher,

I had a quip ready about your boy, but thought it might be considered in poor taste, so I refrained.

Suffice it to say, lots of us here loved watching Kirby compete, and we were excited when he joined Tony’s staff.

Hope things work out well for him in all this.

I don’t think there is a clear option out there that is currently the manager of another college program that is a home run hire. Lots of good coaches, none that are elite (except Schloss and Jay and they aren’t coming).

That’s why Elander makes the most sense. Keeps the team together, keeps the recruiting class together, and if anything it gets some heat off Danny’s back. He won’t do it though.
Agreed. Danny has created a huge bureaucracy with 20 ADs reporting to him as well as 6 more Director level. He had another AD in charge of baseball so DE have much of a relationship with CTV.

The same way he basically encouraged Vitello to leave by not even talking to the guy.

His way or the highway. That's why. It almost looks like he does it out of spite.

Being objective on the subject (despite personally being a MUCH bigger baseball fan) on its surface it seems obvious in terms of investment given the return in revenue.

People describe DW as a bean counter which I take as a complement. The AD shouldn’t be making emotional decisions
Tough job that he’s done well at. Two all sports trophies and one runner up is a great athletic department. Making all that make sense money wise is a much tougher job. I really don’t envy DW . Lots of good coaches with their hands out wanting more money for their sport. Tough decisions to make.

Have not seen anything indicating Tony V salary for the Giants....... He will have to make around 5.6 million to put him in the same financial position due to cost of living and taxes......
Exactly. All the DW stuff may be part of it, but hard to believe anybody walks away from that much over a strained relationship.

The emotional decision is choosing to plow a new course because of emotional discourse with a coach.

That's literally how Danny White wound up being AD at Tennessee because the AD and co for years made emotional decisions and the fans finally said enough and overhauled it. Fulmer was stop gap, but his decisions resulted in Tennessee finally getting serious in the AD.

As a college coach he would be in the top half of paid MLB coaches. Are the Giants really going to significantly increase his pay to the elite levels for zero mlb experience?

Cignetti said in an interview that the AD of Indiana meets with him once a week where they talk about many different things. Cignetti added that the AD came to him and said I want to meet with you and your representation to give you a new contract......Danny White doesn't talk to Tony V, his "lieutenants do".......

This did not have to happen....... This is on Danny Dollars....... total $$it show from ego boy Danny Dollars.........

Agreed. His hiring decisions are way overrated. Wow, he promoted Nate Oaks who was an Assistant. Who were his other big hires?

Coach Elander has overwhelming support from the present team and past players. He's the logical choice (and correct choice IMO) to hand the reins to. Unfortunately, I don't believe White will do so. I'm hearing Kentucky coach, Mangione.
Mangione would be horrible. That UK team acts like a little league softball team.
