Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

TV officially gone

Hope that Elander gets promoted and is able to keep Frank and the rest of the staff intact. That will keep most of our #1;recruiting class from jumping ship. The guys in the baseVol forum compared Elander getting the Job to Kirby leaving Saban. Hes been in the program with CTV and knows how to operate day to day. I think Tony made a poor decision and gave up longterm stability and having his statue built for the glamour of MLB. He will be fired in 3 or 4 years...and he reportedly took a pay cut from his $3.5 million contract here.

Btw...BaseVols LOSE about 9million per year. Same as the LadyVols. Only football and mens BBall actually make money.

Ready to kick some Kentucky Keister

Night games at KY late in the season always seem like risky propositions. Just something about the setting and the cold that seems to make opponents sluggish - same with MO and Vandy. This team has the potential to win or lose every game. Not taking any remaining SEC game for granted. If they could just tackle rather than looking like pinball bumpers, it would help a lot.

TV must have really wanted to go to the MLB, report I saw said he’s taking almost a million dollar pay cut to go to SF.

Why would any sane person take a pay cut to go to SF? Years ago my oldest son and I drove cross country - hit some spots like LV on the way, and then drove from San Diego up to Vancouver. I told him I really really disliked SF - always cold and damp for one thing. It was 100+ when we stopped between LA and SF for the night. Got to SF and needed the jackets that we fortunately had in the car. He said "I understand."

Haynes King is a big part but he is actually a reflection of the team in general under Brent Key. Hard-nosed, 100% effort, and fantastic team chemistry.
Brent Key should be coach of the year IMO.....the players love him and he gets results.
As an ex o-lineman at Tech, he has made o-line play the foundation of the whole offense.

Probably going to the game Sat., and the whole family just got tickets last night for the Pitt game.

GT football is a different type of game day experience than TN. But loads of fun, cheaper, and much less stressful.

Doesnt hurt to play in the ACC either where a good team can go 10-2 by playing a B- game every week...

Still can't believe that the SEC got suckered into playing 9 conference games. The Big whatever and ACC have a couple of good teams with the rest being mostly gimmies. With a few exceptions and those are dwindling, every weekend in the SEC is a little like playing Russian Roulette. Doesn't seem like many backups are seeing action in SEC games lately, and starters are getting beat up.

Correct me if I am wrong but each of these modifications to our conference have been met with a point of view that it harms our chances at competing for championships. But the SEC has been the most prolific conference attaining national titles after each modification. The conference is approaching 1B in revenue annually. That more than anything else is driving the decisions.

Mississippi State is a bottom 3 team in the SEC. They beat the defending Big 12 Champ earlier this year...

You are correct, and a lot of things can and probably will ultimately influence how it all works out. I have the feeling that Saban saw the writing on the wall when he exited - that things were going to be a real crapshoot in the future, and he preferred them more simple. Everybody is going to be thin with regard to talented backups. Could be that the lesser ACC and Big... teams rise up like Vandy, and OH St (for example) gets some real season long competition; or could be the top teams figure out how to retain talent on the bench.

I realize I'm older and don't always see "new" as better, but I don't think that TV revenue and advertising are helping the sport. There are certainly some winners, and we get to watch all the TN games, but I remain just as doubtful about that as the benefit of all the new "technology" going into cars, etc. Remember the acronym for Auto Start/Stop is ASS.

He either really wanted to try his hand in the MLB or really wanted the heck out of Knoxville.

No one will argue that the SEC is the toughest.
But let's not forget that the team that just beat us....bama.....lost to an ACC school not even contending for the title.

Or that GT lost to ga in 8 overtimes last year.....and that's with having every single call go against them.
