Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

some people, believe it or not, have enough money--and this is wild-- actually want to pursue their passions as far as they can take them, money be damned! Francis Ford Coppola last year spent $136,000,000 of HIS OWN money on a passion project that made only $14.4m for a loss of over a hundred million dollars. Some people want to do things with their life, not make as much money as possible... crazy I know...

i say congrats to Tony for living out 99.9999% of baseball player & coach's dreams. hope they win a world series. he left our team literally at the top
And I'm sure he's endorsing Elander just as the players are. I hope he does well at SF.

The Giants brass isn’t dumb - they know they’re not toppling the Dodgers immediately. If they planned to, I doubt they’d take the route of hiring a college coach like this. This seems to be an obvious experiment where some promise shown by TV should buy him a good bit of job security.
They most certainly do want to topple the Dodgers, and the Padres. If it goes sideways then they will be ridiculed for hiring a college manager.

The thing he didn’t have here was the opportunity to manage a MLB team
The common theme among virtually everyone that performs at that level is confidence which often borders on hubris. In the end it would appear that the appeal of managing a MLB team was more interesting to him than becoming the Nick Saban of college baseball...although that clearly could still happen.

If Vitello to the giants means less Eric Cain ramblings on the VQ pod then it can be considered a win overall, right?
I used to watch every single Volquest pod until that guy became the host of absolutely everything. I don't know why Brent thinks he good at it. I don't dislike Eric Cain as a person, but I also don't know Eric Cain the person. Just the face he puts on which irritates me. I wish Brent or Austin would host. I would watch them again. I try to catch Austin when he appears somewhere and I can listen to Matt Ray, country drawl and all. I actually used to subscribe to Matt Ray when he was doing his own thing on his own. He was dependable, comprehensive, and way cheaper than a Volquest sub. (But he can't write! I once suggested he hire an editor.)

You seriously believe that? DW may have allocated more of the House money to LV basketball, but I guarantee you he was supporting as much NIL money to baseball as he could. I don't get why people want to pick sides.

DW has to manage our situation- not Arkansas or LSU. UT baseball is getting great support- $109 million in fact.
I’ll say this: if he passes on Elander, I’m blaming Danny. That’s 100% under Danny’s control.

The large majority of people worship money and believe all anyone is driven by is money.

And let's not act like his "pay cut" is gonna put him in soup lines. Despite VN's insistence that mo' money is the only correct answer, there is a point of diminishing return. He'll be fine...even in SF.

The Idiot Margin and The LoM is the same thing....I've called them the Idiot Margin for years, but lately I am starting to really think they may not really be the "margin" but the majority. I don't really think so yet, but they are by far the loudest ones and it makes it seem like they are.

We need to be louder than them.
I really don't think they are anywhere near the majority McGill. I bet it's less than 5% and many of the loudest are actually fans of other teams trying to cause problems and make it appear like we are a toxic bunch of fans. It's designed to hurt our brand and recruiting. We certainly have some true idiots but it's not anywhere near as many as it seems like in this age of social media where everyone has a megaphone. Just go to a game and it's a very small percentage of fans spouting nonsense and wanting to fire coaches and they are usually drunk. No fan base supports their teams like the Vols do and you simply don't accomplish that if half of your fans are toxic, negative, idiots. Social media magnifies everything. I agree that it appears like we have a majority that are toxic but thats just who is posting and tweeting.

What was touched? They didnt take anything away from baseball to give anyone else. Baseball simply wanted more, to be on or past the leading teams in the conference (Arkansas) and they were willing to do it.
You can tell by the way people keep interchanging NIL with Revenue Sharing that they don’t know crap about how this works.

Random football comment:

It may have been mentioned during the game, but when Joey went to slide and the Alabama defender, hit him late and got a penalty, I wish I would’ve seen a fight breakout between our offensive lineman and that guy. Nobody came to the defense to be mean and nasty, and I want my offensive lineman to be mean and nasty.

Back to baseball talk

Not NIL but revenue sharing I believe. Completely different

Weird then...that just started in July and it seems the thought has been most schools will pay based on the revenue generated by each sport. So I'd assume baseball hasn't earned anything yet and those players won't see the revenue until season starts.

I support DW. He is still a Vol.
