VolNation... Knock it off!

Rumors, discord, turmoil, panic, voices of reason, optimism, pessimism on a Tennessee Football fan forum????? I have never heard of such a thing. I bet none of the other fan football forums experience this, ever.
P
We're off our rockers over one loss. Should our AD be fired? Should Heupel make coaching changes? Why won't Heupel take SOLE responsibility over a TEAM's loss? Knock it off! I understand it's 17 against Bama... but we got it, whether it be in the playoffs or next year! They won't have anything left on that offense beside Ryan Williams next year. Let's stop with the rumor mill. Thank you!
no! Once apon a time before coaches were all millionaires and players were happy to just get a free college education by playing a collegiate sport you would have been spot on brother! Now! It’s a different world because of NIL and I the tremendous amount of $ that is being thrown around! It’s big business now nothing more ! Real sportsmanship is measured in $$ now! So with that being said and tickets and merchandise continuing to go up and up so coaches and players can get more $$! I want a return on my investment, I want championships I want bragging rights I want to wear my 40$ Tennessee hat and have everyone compliment me on my choice of apparel! After all would you pay 300$ to see The Rolling Stones and have mick jagger not show up? Hell no!! The greed in this sport hasn’t just tainted the coaches and players it’s made the fans insane, because when you have to fork out what is a weeks salary for most people nowadays you want results you want to win by God! Win!!

For the record I just wanted a new DC and a stern disciplinarian Offensive Assistant HC. And for players to use their arms when they tackle. And for the center to snap the ball on time. It's the obvious lack of discipline that is concerning. Plus, I don't think Boo knows what he is supposed to do half the time. This defense had no blitz package. Damn watch some Vandy tape. They have insane blitz packages. We looked like we were saving defensive plays for the playoffs. It's an entirely different game if we actually followed the Maxims. Damn I don't think I knocked it off.:p:D:eek:

99.9% of the time I feel the same way. White I ain’t mad it. But Heupel…that was just ridiculous. Not the loss. The decisions. Especially not kicking the FG to make it a 2 possession game. Ty Simpson will be back next year.
Why would Ty Simpson come back next year? He's in the top 15 of every mock draft I've seen and will turn 23 before this season ends.

Us fans definitely have reasons to be frustrated. The mistakes are maddening. But some have as usual gone way too far. Go crush the Cats this weekend and get things cleaned up before we play OU.

I was gonna, but I just can't. Why don't we just fire everyone in the athletics department and go hire the same type we had in the 2010-whenever cornbread was fired? This program is worlds better than during that time frame, yet some on here think we are still like those years. Yeah, I was disappointed about the loss, but no, I don't want to see another decade like the last one.

Embarrassing loss that could signal that we still aren't near winning the SEC. Which is awful to some.
Yeah, doubling down on a terrible loss with terrible arrogance driven displays of negative fandom is just part of the deal. Discerning what happened is way easier than discerning the why or whys, especially when they stack up throughout the game. Those that accept their opinions as facts are laugh worthy.

Its not so much that the Vols lost the game, everyone expected them to lose especially Vegas, but it is in the manner in which they lost the game. The same trends keep rearing their ugly heads, Heupel's lack of clock mgmt., defense giving up 3rd and longs and letting opponents gain 400+ yards/game. Fans have a right to be frustrated in year 5....
No to mention the fact that it will be about 730 days before we get another chance to beat the tide in Tuscaloosa. You get so few chances; when you get the shot; you cannot play sloppily and lazy.
But hey, maybe 2027, right? 😢

Nobody serious is wanting Heupel fired. But obviously something needs to change.
The most concerning thing to me is that the team seems to be regressing over the last three games. That is not good.

I find a lot of similarities between how fans were under Fulmer and how fans are today. Fulmer had Tenn in the mix for a NC almost every year but the rub against him was he couldn't win the big game ( kinda like Franklin at Penn St). Same thing with Heupel today where fans forget where we used to be before he got here. One difference between Fulmer and JH is Fulmer often had one of the top recruiting classes in the nation and I don't think JH recruits over all has ever been ranked very high comparatively

Ive never looked forward to a Tenn vs Kentucky game in my 44 years as much as I have for this weekends bout. This has been a loooonnnnngggg week reading on Volnation and its only freaking Tuesday. Hopefully a 40+ pt beatdown Saturday will have some of these trolls scrambling back to the shire for a while.
Or we struggle to a 3 point OT win and it gets mind meltingly insane on here.

We lost to an Alabama team that was favored and is thought by nearly everyone to have more talent than us, on the road as an underdog. We lost because of literally a few plays ( I would argue if you could change anyone of three plays we likely win that day, the pick six, the pass interference on 3rd and 10 in the 4th AND the false start on the first drive of the game). The pick six was a BAD play call and an even WORSE throw/decision. The pass interference was a direct result of us being outmatched in our area of weakness, where we are down 2 starters. If our fans can't see the difference in where this program is compared to where it was in the recent pass, getting dominated at every position by Bama and knowing were done by the end of the 1st quarter than I congratulate them on not having those horrible memories. Like it or not, Bama is playing the best football in the country maybe other than OSU and maybe Indiana (who is not nearly as talented). Yes it hurts maybe more knowing we made mistakes that kept us from winning a very winnable game, but if anyone came in to this year thinking we were going to be better than 5 and 2 at this point with both UGA and BAMA in the top 5 in the nation, after what we lost from last year, down 2 cornerbacks and starting a QB who has been here only a few months and last played 2 years ago for Appy state, then I do not think you have much of a grasp on reality. We have a really, really good recruiting class coming in and who knows about the transfer portal. Fortunately/Unfortunately we have underclassmen gaining valuable experience due to injuries and UT literally is the IT school (look at the application rates currently) and have the most successful total Athletic program in the country currently. We are favored in every remaining game and we WILL make the playoffs if we win out. Those of you demanding change now because you ran your mouth to all the Bama fans at work need to consider what change actually would look like and what it looks like to those who are considering coming to UT. We had a shitload of change for 15+ years and each change mad us look more and more like dumpster fire with the most unrealistic fans in the country.

Whats REALLY crazy is that most of the people losing their damn minds because we lost a game, on the road as an underdog; are the SAME Negas that predicted the VOLS to go 7-5 or 8-4 in the preseason poll.

Think about that for a second.

Hell even the most popular pick for our record at 9-3 ostensibly was figuring.on losing to UGA, at Bama, and either OK or at Flarda. So basically the ONLY people that should even dream of griping about that loss are those who actually picked our VOLS to go 11-1 or better. Since UGA is the best team we play every year and the one CJH hasnt beat. THOSE very few irrational fans....who thought we were gonna win 11 or 12 regular season games with a QB who got here in May, missing our best DB in McCoy, and missing both starting Dtackles for the 1st half of the season. With 1 returning WR that wasnt a freshman. THOSE very few, extremely irrational people with totally unrealistic expectations could remain logically consistent and not be a total jackleg calling for coaches jobs and trashing our team for losing AT Bama.

Anybody else here doing so is being an emotional tittiebaby. Because you knew and expected us to lose AT Bama just like everyone else and all the national media did. As well as Vegas of course. You planned on this team losing that game which is why you predicted more than 1 loss this year. Most of us predicted 3 losses. Vegas had the o/u at 7.5 for a while and 8.5 at its highest.

Yet every single time we lose a game the idiots completely take over the FF for the week with their crying and griping and wanting to fire everyone. Its like watching a 3yo throw a tantrum in the grocery store because their parents tolerate it. Thats what you look like when wanting to fire coaches that win 10 games a year and improve our roster AND recruiting classes every single year since theyve been here.
You're welcome.

I am not disappointed. We have risen from a third tier to a second tier program in the SEC. If it were not for a weak OOC schedule our record every year would be around average. We did have one exceptional year in 22, but the rest are who we are.

What surprises me is that the AD can get the return on investment for the level of performance on the field. Has to be the best in college athletics.

It not being „off of our rockers“ over ONE loss. It is this…..
Since 2005, the Tennessee Volunteers football team has a combined record of
5 wins and 52 losses against Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, as of October 2025.
It’s past time for this to change. We had the talent to win our two games so far this year but missed out yet again.

Hmmm, that seems a bit harsh on Vol fans. We are in the midst of a 27 year span where, IMO, our fanbase has plenty of rights to be frustrated. You are correct though - our chances of beating Bama were slim but, we did have a chance entering the game. Many Vol fans though, are optimists, and still felt we could pull this game out but alas, the better team prevailed. Some folks are good at managing their expectations and some are not. But BVS seems to be real and so people come on to this forum to voice their feelings. Being upset at the loss and thinking that there are possibly other reasons than poor execution (on occasion) on the field are normal. Jets fans, Giants fans, Raider fans, Brown fans, Gator fans, FSU fans, Penn State fans all go to their friendly blogs and try to figure out Why Us? My recent poll on here asked a simple Q: Do we need new coaches or players. The results were split 50/50. This tells me that the coaching staff still has considerable support but, some are not so enthusiastic about Heup and his staff. That is normal. Losing sucks. People gonna complain over anything less than a natty - just human nature.

Best thing about Vol Nation is that if posts/threads upset you, don't read them!!

Go Vols - whoop dem cats!

For me, I’m more interested in how we respond the rest of the way. Losing to a good Alabama team on the road is not all that surprising . . . Although I am perplexed by our end of half game-management, dropped passes, and our inability to tackle.

Are we going to stomp Kentucky as we SHOULD? Or will we play down to them.

Will we handle business at home against Oklahoma?

Will we do another pathetic no-show in the swamp and make DJ Lagway sudddenly look like a Heisman contender?

Will we buy into the B.S. Vandy hype and give Pavia a reason to run his mouth?

The answers to THESE questions will determine how I feel about where we are this season and going forward.

You seem a bit confused. You ask for a change but then you post our record since 2005. Were you in a coma? And what does our record since 2005 have to do with our current coaching staff? Nothing at all.

Those are all good and valid questions.

Vols have to answer all 5 correctly in order to even have a shot at the CFP. And honestly, this team in its current form, is not CFP material. Defense wins championships. So I hold no...as in zero...hope that UT would make a run in the CFP.

I was at 9-3 before the season started. Figured 8-4 after the UGA implosion. Figured either Miss. St. or Arky would pick us off. Pleasantly surprised there, but there were still warning signs. Bama...ugh. Should have been much closer.

UT can win all 5 remaining if they play to their potential. Or drop at least 2 if they don't. The Vandy game looms large. Glad it's at home.

It's a one-week season now. For UT, the College Football Playoff begins on Saturday at UK. Win that one, and it's a home game with OU. Another road game at UF; then a home finale against Vandy. Gotta win 'em all to have shot at the final 12.

For UT, "win or go home" starts Saturday.

Go Vols.
