Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I wish everyone would lay off all the coaches. Banks did very well last year. Everyone loves Inge recruiting.

If Heupel feels he needs to make a change, it is his discretion, team, and success.
I don't think he's been bad this year. I think we've had some unfortunate injuries. A guy making a business decision, and a bad business decision we made with the hope some younger guys would step up left us with some glaring holes in the secondary

I'd like to add one thing, er a couple.

After Derek, Butch, and Jermy. I honestly dont care if we do lose another game. We were not a good team, for a long long time.

I call it the cold backside. Teeth chattering, watching Vandy have their ways.

We have to shore some things up. But, we have the ship pointed in the right direction.

I'm gonna say this one last time. Josh has a 74% winning percentage. I gauran effing tee someone else would gladly grab him up.
we were bad bc the people doing the hiring and supporting the programs were bad. I don’t want Josh to leave but he may not be as successful elsewhere. It’s not a coincidence that football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s swimming, golf, men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, and softball are as good or better than they had been in years. We are living in the Golden era of UT sports and need to enjoy all of this success. Go Vols!!!

There's got to be a reason he's floating it out there as a possibility, even if it is just to grease Gator fans up to more readily accept whomever they end up with.
A Gator fan pointed out Billy Gonzales' age and Graham Hall pointed out Curt Cignetti is 64.

Those Gator fans pay to be gaslit. Mercy.

I agree and will probably get hate now. But I don’t think Josh is as successful without Danny White. He gives coaches a crazy amount of resources. He wants to win and get major funding and that only comes with winning. That’s not to say Heupel isn’t a good coach though.

I don’t fully disagree with you, but Banks has been, arguably, the sole cause of us missing out on 2 championship level seasons (2022 and 2025). I also think (could be wrong) that Banks is over the safeties. That’s been our weakest position group since we hired Heupel. I definitely think we could do much worse than Banks, but I’m not against trying a different avenue - especially if we can keep Martinez and Garner.

Does this partly explain PSU struggles this year?
Maybe, He has a great track record as a DC though over many stops at many different places. PSU has allowed 4.6 Yards per play this year and held Oregon under 5.6 YPP. With all thats went on he wouldn’t be a bad hire at all as DC. Also has won a National Championship

It has seemed to me that the period we struggled the most as an Athletic Dept was when Jimmy Haslam had an oversized influence on how things were run and who was hired and so on.

When Peyton started to gain more influence, things seem to have gotten MUCH better. I'm not saying the two are absolutely related but it's very interesting to me, and truly I don't believe in coincidences.

We weren't great last year because of Banks. It was our DL, Edge and CBs that were good, but safety play was still meh and then we lost Thomas, Charles, and Harrison, all 3 of which had meaningful snaps in 24 and have done well at their new teams. Losing that many experienced safeties multiple years in a row and then Boo's antics makes it look like that room is not led well and has a bad culture

I'm sure CJH has a Physician, I'm sure he has been told to lose a pound or two by the good ole doc...😆
