People claim that he is favoring Lady Vols because he hired Kim. IMO, if he is putting a lot in Lady VOLS, it's because women's basketball has exploded since Caitlin Clark, and Lady VOLS Pat put that sport on the map. He is just being smart-- of course you are going to use that to your advantage.

100% agree. Plus, contrary to what some want to believe, the LV as a brand has far more name recognition and branding power than Vol baseball. Tony has built something special here, but Pat Summit and the LV did it first, and basketball, even women’s, will always eclipse college baseball.

I could get the itch for coaching in the big leagues…but why San Francisco???? That has to be one of the trashiest cities out there, you get off the plane and theres tons of tents lined up with the homeless. People will also just piss and 💩 on the side walk like it’s nothing

Unfortunately the loud ones that know how to tweet in our fan base are the most fire happy, drama starting group of people ever. They make our local media look good
Some people wanna fire Danny white and/or are pissed at Tony V lol
Too many damn people have a platform with opinions they can share publicly and it hurts us more then help

That’s just way it is and always has been
Used to only be football and lady Vols with men’s bball a distant 3rd

You can’t rob Peter to pay Paul and lose revenue
Those top 3 have to be good for us to be a strong university in todays world and football and women’s bball are elite over history

It probably will not go past 5 today. I am much more optimistic than I was on Saturday when most thought it was a done deal. Last night, we were still in it and fighting hard.

Maybe he takes a lateral move pay wise but I imagine he’s looking for a decent raise to leave everything he has built. If they offer him 4 million per year that would tie him for 7th highest paid manager. Seems expensive for an unprecedented move to hire a college coach straight to the MLB.

Edit: Looks like California is 14.4% for the highest earners so possibly even more. (It’s also a progressive tax rate but I’m not doing the exact math)

For it to work, Tony and DW will probably have to have a different relationship than any other coach on campus, including fund raising specifically for him it seems.

But also, censorship is coming, so maybe won’t have to wait too long for this to change after all 🙄
