Another great block to spring #5

100% agree. Plus, contrary to what some want to believe, the LV as a brand has far more name recognition and branding power than Vol baseball. Tony has built something special here, but Pat Summit and the LV did it first, and basketball, even women’s, will always eclipse college baseball.I like Danny White, think he's a great AD. The way I see this, Tony got a say on Lindsay Nelson rebuild, he is highly paid and has a top recruiting class. Danny is over ALL sports, not just baseball. People claim that he is favoring Lady Vols because he hired Kim. IMO, if he is putting a lot in Lady VOLS, it's because women's basketball has exploded since Caitlin Clark, and Lady VOLS Pat put that sport on the map. He is just being smart-- of course you are going to use that to your advantage.
I've avoided this discussion because it has all the trappings of months of yousaidism. I'll share a couple of things. TV, DW others were still working on this last night at 11pm. There were some (meaningful) personality conflicts and misaligned priorities in the program. We were too cocky and didn't think he'd really leave, or that a big MLB program would take him. We were wrong. In fairness, TV is obviously a big ego too. He has some big asks of the program not related to his salary etc., and he expressed those to donors away from the AD. There is indeed real friction. They've been working it through for days. I shared this Summer that the highest risk of losing TV was to MLB not other college programs. I cited the Cardinals and other programs interviewing him, and was mauled for being unrealistic and told he'd never go to the pros. We need to admit that he is seen as a master program manager, and identifier of coaching and player talent. He is not like other college coaches. He's something much more substantial and he's worth the risk of betting on an unknown in the MLB. If something is done this morning, it happened after midnight. As of 11pm EDT, his agents, our side etc were trying to solve it. Bay Area Bob does not have a scoop. He's guessing. Right now the Giants think they'll get him and DW and AD believe we'll keep him. It probably will not go past 5 today. I am much more optimistic than I was on Saturday when most thought it was a done deal. Last night, we were still in it and fighting hard.
Thanks to @Stoerner Fumbles for some great clarity and insight on the situation.I've avoided this discussion because it has all the trappings of months of yousaidism. I'll share a couple of things. In other words you are PWed and gave in….I used to be of the same mindset and then I got married. The Mrs made a solid point: why put them up so late and only enjoy it for a month? So now we do—or rather she does— the interior decorations after Halloween and I’ll do the exterior typically after Thanksgiving. It’s a happy medium.
And they want to tax your pay after you leave…LOLCalifornia is going to take 12.5% in taxes. If Tony is making 3 million per year now he’d need to make ~3.4 million to offset that to come up even (if my math is correct). Maybe he takes a lateral move pay wise but I imagine he’s looking for a decent raise to leave everything he has built. If they offer him 4 million per year that would tie him for 7th highest paid manager. Seems expensive for an unprecedented move to hire a college coach straight to the MLB.
Edit: Looks like California is 14.4% for the highest earners so possibly even more. (It’s also a progressive tax rate but I’m not doing the exact math)
I agree.T
Unfortunately the loud ones that know how to tweet in our fan base are the most fire happy, drama starting group of people ever. They make our local media look good
Some people wanna fire Danny white and/or are pissed at Tony V lol
Too many damn people have a platform with opinions they can share publicly and it hurts us more then help
Idiots
