Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

California is going to take 12.5% in taxes. If Tony is making 3 million per year now he’d need to make ~3.4 million to offset that to come up even (if my math is correct). Maybe he takes a lateral move pay wise but I imagine he’s looking for a decent raise to leave everything he has built. If they offer him 4 million per year that would tie him for 7th highest paid manager. Seems expensive for an unprecedented move to hire a college coach straight to the MLB.

Edit: Looks like California is 14.4% for the highest earners so possibly even more. (It’s also a progressive tax rate but I’m not doing the exact math)

It’s Bruce all over again.
Bruce? BRUCE? Bruce who? Oh, the dude who floated running for Senate as a Jewish Republican in Alabama? Only to retire and take a position within the AD at Auburn leaving... let's see here... Jewish Republican Paul Finebaum to run for the seat?

Let me be clear. I have nothing agains Jewish folks, Paul Finebaum, Bruce Banner, or the Incredible Hulk. I'm just saying... I'm glad we ended up with Rick.

Yes. I predict the same situation will happen. Our former coach that most of us really liked when he was here will be out of the league for a few years and then we will have to face him at a different SEC school.

Almost everything you posted is completely irrelevant to that point.

*I hope not. Bruce made me a TN Basketball fan, much like Tony made me a TN baseball fan. The biggest difference in the 2 was I grew up a Duke fan and really liked Coach K. I watched a ton of college basketball before becoming a full time VOL b-ball fan. As far as college baseball, I can count the number of games I had watched on 1 hand, before our 2021 season.

The point is, I probably won't be as interested in college baseball if Tony leaves. It's not something I planned my life around prior to Tony Vitello coaching the VOLS. Baseball is not my favorite sport. I continued to watch college basketball after Bruce left because I watched enjoyed it before he ever got here.

If Tony was to come back to coaching college baseball (if he's gone and if the SF job doesn't work out), I probably wouldn't care if he was at a rival team. I've watched a lot of TN Baseball the past 4 years but I don't watch other teams play. I don't "need" college baseball like I do basketball and football

What's the latest on TV? Has he decided yet? If not, is there a timetable for when he will decide? Hope he stays, but if the majors are a dream, can't blame him for chasing it. If he goes, I hope he is hugely successful. Don't want to see him at another college in 3 years time. That would hurt.

We’ll hear something tomorrow, most likely. Fits the 24-72 hour timetable reported on Saturday.

The questions nobody is asking but should be......

Why did the "Tony to San Fran" news get leaked before our biggest rivalry game of the year? And who leaked it?

That's what I want to know.
Finally heard an answer that made sense today: Jimmy Sexton. Sexton would sell his grandmother for leverage and knew that leaking it then was his prime opportunity to create chaos. He is the foremost leech in all of college athletics.

Sure will. If he leaves DW has to hire Elander unless he goes with him
That would make a lot of sense. It would also help tamp down the “Danny hates Tony” narrative. But if that narrative is true, would Danny hire Josh? It’s very interesting in the most heartbreaking way possible.
