Mark Stoops Tried to Quit

Once you understand “best case scenario” and see it as a dead end job, that’s quite quitting.

Stoops figured that out about 2 summers ago. I could tell when he started complaining about having to do NIL fundraising while comparing that other SEC programs had other people to do that for the coaches.

There's plenty of opposing coaches I've despised over the years.

Stoops is close to the top of the list for me.

Can't say why. UT has owned him.

Just something about him I can't stand.

Dude ain’t going anywhere. Kentucky fans merely see football season as an excuse to drink and get together on Saturdays until November. They definitely aren’t going to pressure the AD into firing him.
Reminds me of Wisconsin’s long dark before Alvarez.

Even if Stoops took 50% (he wouldn’t) that would be a $19 million hit that Barnhart doesn’t have lying around.
This reminds me of the report a week or so ago that Florida was ready to fire Billy Napier and hire Lane Kiffin last season. If that were true why didn't it happen? It just doesn't make much sense. Why is right now any different?

Florida couldn’t fire Napier until after the 5th game (Texas) in order to keep players from taking a redshirt this season. I’d suspect Billy will be fired shortly after their next loss. They cant run the risk of him winning 4 or 5 & people saying “give him another year”

That's the UAA narrative you're parroting. Fans aren't even buying that because most players are on contracts that would not pay out if they redshirted with plans to hit the portal. It's why you didn't see a mass exodus at any of the other already-open jobs which is why Gator fans aren't buying that excuse.

I hear he's being given the opportunity to make it to 8-4 and if he falls short, he'll be outsed at whichever point it is no longer attainable. Not sure that's what's going to happen, but I doubt very many are worried about the portal at this point. Anytime there's a change, turnover is guaranteed, it just probably won't happen mid-season.

He's the best they've had since Claiborne. It always seems to happen with UK around Year 8. He gives them success, 9-10 wins, a couple of big upsets but they don't break through to national prominence. UK fans begin to forget how bad it can be and they think they deserve better. I don't like Stoops, but that doesn't change that he has won in a really hard place to win.

Kentuckys AD is trash. That dude gives out contracts that are criminal. No way UK is throwing money like that away. Didn't he beg for the A&M job?

Wouldn't mind him as the Vols DC if Banks takes a head coaching job this coming offseason.

Though perhaps that has been promised to Inge whenever Banks does leave.
That's a thought. I've also thought about Luke Fickell in that position after Wisconsin fires him.

Seriously I think they might reach out to James Franklin if they decide to bag Stoops. It wouldn't be a terrible hire for them, Franklin is basically a better Stoops.

According to a buddy of mine in Lexington, there's some smoke that Stoops is stepping down.

I've thought that he's wanted out of there ever since the dust up between him and Cal a few years ago, and he actually did try and jump ship to A&M until their boosters rejected it. There's no way he steps down and give up that buyout though. He'll force UK to fire him
