It’s not been the losing this year. It’s been how we lost. I take Ls pretty well if the other team is better and we just get beat in a hard fought game. We have done absolutely everything we could to F up and lose both games, and succeeded. The worst part of that is feeling like coaching had a hand in it.
It did..

Everyone got excited when Joey actually ran the offense that Heupel brought here better than the 2 million dollar guy that thought he was worth 4 million. Truth is. With or without that cat it was always going to be a 8 or 9 win team.. Lost too much defensively and changed too many parts offensively to expect much more than that. Schedule got tougher this year too. Tougher road games imo and it's not over.
It’s not just Joey and the O. It’s an all new receiver room too.
And the crazy thing is we actually got better on O.
Hypel is still improving as a coach. No idea where his ceiling is but this year is his career best job so far. We have 4 loses at this point with any other coach from Tennessee from the last 50 years.
Think about it. We’re a missed FG from one loss and a pick 6 before halftime from a very close game at the end. IMG_3752.jpeg

Score was 37-20 and that’s the stat that everyone sees. We just shot ourselves in the foot at the most inappropriate times.

We scored on the last play. If it’s reviewed.
Without the pick 6 it’s a very close game.
Who gives a **** what “everyone “ sees. It doesn’t mean anything if they are not really looking. The recruits are actually looking and so are the opposing coaches.

I’m not disagreeing with you Orange slice, all I’m saying at the end of the day is the final stat is what counts. We had every opportunity to win this game, but we made some untimely blunders that allowed the score to look worse than the actual game score.

From a dumpster fire that cut almost the whole receiver room and lost Nico in may……where “everyone “ was saying we’re a 6 win team who would be lucky to make a bowl…..to still having an outside shot at the CFP after the Bama game is just insane.
I personally think we lose one more and the dipsticks will be bitching but I’ll take that all day long over the 6 wins “everyone “ expected and the cubicle crew calling for the coach to be replaced.
I **** you not, I think some of yall enjoy the coaching searches more than the football games

Georgia, Bama and Gators have not feared UT in decades, and their records against us give reason for this. Coach Heupel came into a mess and made us relevant again, which was much needed and appreciated.

So, here is the underlying Q in our/Vol Nation's attempt to become an Elite Team and whereby our SEC foes will actually fear playing the Volunteers.

If you had ONE choice (and yes, there are a million variables to this question) to secure either better coaching or players (and you cannot select both), which would you personally prefer?

PS
This is not an indictment on the current team/coaches however, we now have two losses w a brutal schedule remaining. So, that being said, if you had a magic wand and could be granted one of the 2 choices, which would you select?
The team is better than you think.

We should have scored at the end to be tied and going to overtime!

I hear you.
I just think there are a lot of people crying that have short memories and are lacking perspective.

Clearly CJH is still learning on the job. So is Kirby Smart. He seems to have trouble with a certain team as well.

There’s a lot I’d like him to do better but the only way that happens is learning on the job.
Maybe he’s smart enough to have pick up a lesson or 2 Saturday night.

Either way CJH is the best thing we’ve had in a looooooog while. An I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else go through the coaching searches and be disappointed.

Especially Florida.

Hypel’s biggest flaw (imo) is time management in the last 45 seconds of a half. It lead to , at least in part, the pick 6. He has to learn from those mistakes. Unfortunately you have to make mistakes to learn from them

Yeah.

It was a bad call and a bad pass.

Run it or kick the field goal.

Excellent point. I’ve been through the past debacles of coaching changes and appreciate what we have now, but I’d like to see is play a full disciplined game and stop with those untimely penalties that put us behind the chains not allowing us to run an uptempo offense or heaven forbid throw an int resulting in a 14 point negative play against us. Every game is a learning experience and I’m sure all the coaches acknowledge that. The final stat is not that indicative of how close we played them, but let’s hope in future games the mishaps happen on the opposing teams! 😂

Out of 132 FBS TEAMS HOW MANY WOULD YOU CONSIDER ELITE? Asking for a friend
One.

Elite teams are those that win a national championship. That was Ohio State last year and they are on track for another this year.

Elite programs, in my opinion, are teams that win multiple championships across a 10 year period. Saban Tide being most recent.

I’ve never considered Tennessee as an elite program. Even during the 90s when I attended 90 percent of the games

For the people saying players, I’d suggest looking at someone like Vandy right now. No way do they have our talent level but look what they’re doing. That’s coaching, leadership, confidence, attitude. It’s contagious from the top down. Leadership means something.

Sure we need some more great recruits, but that alone isn’t the answer. Look at the past years when FSU and A&M were absolutely loaded but blew it. Coaching matters.

If we go 9-3, I'll be thrilled. I think 7-5 is on the table.

I’d prefer a starting QB on campus before July (that’s not a knock on JA who I think has done a great job but lightning doesn’t strike twice)

I’d prefer our All American corner not be out the whole season along with another NFL corner prospect.

Also I’d prefer not losing the starting safety to the portal.

I’d prefer evenly called games by these SEC refs.

Is TN elite probably not. Is there really an elite team in the country in general??

I agree. Some people think they grow on trees
