It was cash. Why would they even have to say that? It’s just a narrative, probably started by psu or adidas to make themselves look like they know what they’re doing and this was the plan all along (which I absolutely don’t believe since boosters were in on giving Franklin the resources to retain nearly the entire roster for a supposed title run). They probably just panicked and decided a firing was better if they did it early enough to get a jump on the search than somehow ending this season 7-5 with Franklin and wanting to make the same decision but be fighting uf and au for first pick of the litter.Adidas is paying Penn State to take over the contract....and source after source has reported they offered paying the majority of Franklin's buyout to ensure they would land the contract over Nike.
We're not agreeing to disagree here...you're outright refusing to acknowledge the reported truth.
Now...I'm not so naive as to just believe it at face value, but also Penn State has an existing deal with Nike, Adidas is trying to get the new contract....so where there is smoke there is fire. It's not that Adidas said "fire him or else" but I do believe they agreed "if we are awarded this contract a portion of it can be used to pay the buyout for Franklin if you decide to fire him now"
I don’t know how or why psu has managed to play as bad as they have this year, but if they don’t get cignetti im betting this firing will be considered a massive mistake 3-4 years from now.
