Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Adidas is paying Penn State to take over the contract....and source after source has reported they offered paying the majority of Franklin's buyout to ensure they would land the contract over Nike.

We're not agreeing to disagree here...you're outright refusing to acknowledge the reported truth.

Now...I'm not so naive as to just believe it at face value, but also Penn State has an existing deal with Nike, Adidas is trying to get the new contract....so where there is smoke there is fire. It's not that Adidas said "fire him or else" but I do believe they agreed "if we are awarded this contract a portion of it can be used to pay the buyout for Franklin if you decide to fire him now"
It was cash. Why would they even have to say that? It’s just a narrative, probably started by psu or adidas to make themselves look like they know what they’re doing and this was the plan all along (which I absolutely don’t believe since boosters were in on giving Franklin the resources to retain nearly the entire roster for a supposed title run). They probably just panicked and decided a firing was better if they did it early enough to get a jump on the search than somehow ending this season 7-5 with Franklin and wanting to make the same decision but be fighting uf and au for first pick of the litter.

I don’t know how or why psu has managed to play as bad as they have this year, but if they don’t get cignetti im betting this firing will be considered a massive mistake 3-4 years from now.

Super random and off topic. Does anyone on here have any experience in or know anybody who’s ever ran a food stand or anything like that around Knoxville? I’ve got an idea I’ve been wanting to pursue for a while. My head is spinning reading about all the permits and everything involved. Any advice would be appreciated.
I do not, but I’m not sure what stage you’re in in terms of opening said food truck, but in this economy and with these prices, I’d pause to see what happens.

Because adidas doesn’t know shite about whose a good coach and who isn’t and whether a university should put itself through a coaching search without knowing what the outcome will be.
Why would that stop people at Adidas from thinking they know shite about who is a good coach? If people that actually didn't know shite about what they are talking about stopped posting about football then Freak would have to shut down volnation.

There are all types of iterations of what this situation could look like. Adidas being part of the process of firing Franklin could be as simple as the PSU AD saying the school would like to make a change but the buyout is an issue. Then the higher ups tell the AD that they need the football program to be elite and so they are willing to help with buyout. The AD could have initiated the conversation. Acting like it's crazy to think that a mega-corporation that invested hundreds of millions of dollars might be at least involved in massive decisions is ignorant.

Piece, moran.

I thought I made it pretty obvious that I was taking the reporting of this as a "grain of salt" my point was I didn't fabricate/create the Adidas involvement...

I'm 100% certain they were involved, even if indirectly. But again Penn State could use 100% of those funds to fire Franklin, they could also use 0% of them. But having the new contract with Adidas is why they are able to make it happen today and not in 2 months.
You think 2 months makes a difference on a 50 million dollar decision. Give me a break. Adidas money might have made the difference between now or 5 years from now but not too months. And no adidas had no say or opinion on the matter, that Id be big money on. They were not involved.

Nobody is taking Tennessee this weekend. Evidently our offense is on par with Mizzou and Vandy. The Bama glaze is back. I hope we come out and just smack them around. They’ve played a tough three game stretch. They’ll be winded which bolds well for us.
Everyone’s been sleeping on Tennessee all season. Heupel gets no respect from the media, but the guy can flat out coach. Our defense has looked rough, but if the offense clicks early it’s a whole different game. I just hope we come out swinging and punch em in the mouth.

I wonder if Bama OC Ryan Grubb gets a HC job after the season is over...I know Bama fans are already worried that he might leave.
Said before the season he was a big reason for Deboer success and him leaving last year really hurt. I bet he gets some looks and he is a very good OC. I hope he does leave.

Thanks for the advice. For now, I'd like to start very small scale just to gauge interest in my product, so no truck yet. Perhaps a small stand at first.

I'm just so tired of the 9-5 office life and I'm just not sure if I can do it for another 40 years. It's gotten to the point where I daydream about the simplicity of my landscaping job I had in highschool. I want to try this because I've been thinking about this idea for a while and hopefully what I've come up with will resonate with people.

I feel that! I love my job, but there are also days—more often than not—that I find myself missing my simple Food City days where I just bagged groceries and ran a cash register. But if I could, I’d open a bar. That’s always been my dream.

The report is that Adidas drove the decision to fire him and they agreed to pay all or most of the buyout. PSU is denying this for reasons that should be obvious, and Adidas refuses to comment. The source was someone in the PSU AD. It's impossible to know anything for certain but it doesn't exactly make any of us comfortable.

“I know there were people at PSU who wanted him gone, but what I’ve heard is Adidas helped make that happen today and the losses made any pushback impossible,” Asti added.
