since it's now coach firing season and since we have already played one team with a fired HC, what are the odds that Mark Stoops or Billy Napier are fired before they play Tennessee?

IMO Stoops is begging to get fired then take that easy VA Tech job. Guy is pretty smart at life.

38 MILL...that's the reason Stoops is begging to get fired...and that has to be paid out in like 90 days from date of termination plus is not offset.
Unlike Franklin's 49 Mill that gets paid out over the remaining life of the contract and is offset by any money he gets from next gig.

UK doesn't have that kind of capital lying around.

We played Arky with Petrino.
Played UAB three weeks before they fired Dilfer.
Might see Napier gone when we play them.
IF they find a way, Stoops will be gone at UK.

That would make 4 of 12 on our schedule.
I can't ever recall that many coaches turning over in one season on our shcedule.

Teams would be foolish to fire a HC right now. Who are these coaches that they are going to get for the money that they are paying that is better than what they have? Outside of Curt Cignetti and maybe Cristobal, who is overperforming right now? Sitake? Golesh? There are about to be massive vacancies and who is going to fill them all? If Norvell and Billy get the axe, there is going to be massive vacancies. I just don't see UK caring enough about football to pony up the Stoops buyout....but with 3 wins at season end, they may not have a choice.

The advantage to firing a coach now is it allows a school time to hire a new coach before the transfer portal opens. That could be huge for some.

I wanna say Pruitt may have had a team that surpassed that number

Portal automatically opens with the firing.
Yes, but players can't transfer during the season because of other issues like being enrolled in school and such.

If a school can hire a coach quickly, after the season ends, the new coach may be able to limit the portal losses.

Firing during the season gives the school time to get their house in order, and speak with agents of prospective coaches to get a head start on the search and hiring process.

If they gave me 49 mil, there would never be a next gig

Can't believe Dilfer got fired.

I'm not talking about the timing within the year, I'm talking about this year period. There are already numerous major vacancies and more to come. There are only so many coaches that can win at a high level and many of them are beyond the financial resources of most institutions.

Yes they do. They’ll fire him after he loses to Louisville to end the season. That’s when their fans will want it most.

I never said for everyone. Did you think I was implying that the whole NCAA portal opened because UAB fired Dilfer?
No . You didn’t specify. So who knows what you’re saying.
You replied to a post that I thought the implication was quite clear that having your Next coach in place when the portal for everyone opens up is advantageous to waiting until after the season and try to get a coach hired.

Just for clarification with the new one portal window ruling, there was also language in that ruling stating "When a coach is fired the transfer window for players leaving will start 5 days after a replacement coach is hired and will be limited to 15 days not 30"
UCLA & V Tech were grandfathered in before the ruling, however I am not sure if Penn State is and might be under this ruling.
Any coach fired from here on out those transfers would not be allowed to enter the portal until a permanent coach is hired.
