Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I am thinking big time Penn State boosters were already done with Franklin prior to this year and that's why they didn't open the wallets to buy a better roster. It seems like they are willing to invest in the program if the right guy is there. But think about the contract Penn State is going to have to give any coach to replace Franklin! They guaranteed him 50 million. I just don't think you incentivize winning enough when you do that. You think Franklin is upset? He gets to screw around and spend more time with his kids. I don't know how the buyout is paid out but he absolutely does not have to work if he doesn't want to.

I mean yea winning matters definitely shields a lot but in depth it’s not championship defense with a suspect DC.we want a natty but 5 and 1 is nice too..
I was on this board this entire offseason, my brother. Absolutely no one was thinking Natty. I'm not criticizing anyone for thinking it now, but we have already gotten way more than most of us expected. I try and appreciate what I have rather than wasting any energy at all worried about what I don't.

Uh...no. Guy is a baller along the lines of Aguilar. If he's back to full strength and rounded into form by the time we play them, we might be singing a different tune.

He had 6 pass TDs and 3 INTs in 4 games before he got hurt.

Now has 6 TDs, 6 INTs.

You’re right he wasn’t overhyped but WAY, WAY, WAY overhyped.

Joey Big Balls had 12 TDs / 3 INTs in 4 games with one of those being vs UGA. Don’t disrespek JA like that again!

Kentucky is probably the worst job in the SEC. Too much of their revenue sharing goes to basketball. FWIW I think he can get a better job like UNC when it opens up.
Oh agreed it’s terrible but I’m sure being an alum might play a factor for him. Especially if they feel “one of their own” can right the football program. I bet they would allocate a lot more to football.

That never passed the smell test for me when it came out. It's suicide to invest more into your basketball program when football is the primary driver of revenue, yes—even at Kentucky.

I wouldn’t be opposed to hiring him as some sort of analyst. The guy is a good coach, I just think Penn State was too big for him. He’s more of a mid-tier type guy.

Will be interesting to see who Penn State targets. If you’re going to pay someone $49 million to not coach, you better have a good idea of an upgrade in mind. Maybe they’ll try and poach Kiffin. He doesn’t seem too happy in Oxford.
Were this to be us, I’d want (in order):
Cignetti
Golesh
Kiffin

But I don’t think Cignetti would leave.

He's absolutely a good coach. Franklin wining at Vandy, when he did, given the resources he had at his disposal, was leagues more-impressive than what Lea is doing now. Vandy has an investment into sports now that was not realistic for Vandy when Franklin was there. I'm not even sure Vanderbilt isn't a better job curently. PSU probably pays better, but unless there's some war chest for buying players the boosters were waiting to crack open when James was fired, I don't think they have equal resources to Vandy at this point. Might sound insane but compare the rosters.
