The heat needs to be put on the athletic department

Neyland is noticeably quiet this year. I said it in another thread, but these are the results you get when you price out the blue collar diehards who want to go down there and shred their voices for a chance at making a difference in the game.

Now, you have the whales who can afford to pay Disneyworld weekend prices for a single game, except they sit there on their hands like your local high school's resident blue hair season ticket holders. The wine and cheese whales looking for a "Saturday experience in Knoxville."

Even Alabama wasn't charging these kinds of prices when they were winning natties every other year, and that's even when you adjust for inflation. Yes, we're consistently good now. Far and away more so than we've been in decades. When was the last time we won the conference? Even the division when those existed? So, what exactly are we paying $400+ in the nosebleeds for? There are actually seats for sale at over $1K. For WHAT?
The fans have been taken advantage of because we're fans, and the Neyland atmosphere is losing its edge as a direct result. I won't hear a word about paying players being the reason either. Make no mistake, Tennessee has F off money in the bank. They're not hurting for anything, but they'll send out emails asking for donations to help replace the roll up door on the concession stand in Y9, or replace the goalposts, etc. Total joke.

The University doesn't set the prices for the secondary market.

Based on the cost of my season tickets, UT's pre-game price in the general seating area is about $125/seat and around $450-500 in the premium area. Based on that, is it borderline ridiculous to have nosebleeds listed for $400/ticket? Of course it is. But that's the price people are willing to pay to get into a game and UT isn't involved in that secondary price. One of my law partners offered me $4,500 for my pair of seats in the lower west club and a spot on his plane for my girlfriend and I to fly up for the Georgia game. That goes a long way to pay for those seats for the season next year. Did UT have anything to do with the price he was willing to pay for my seats?

Ironically, a family friend had sideline seats in almost the same spot as my club seats in the 1990s and by the time his family gave them up, they were making a $10k a year donation for the right to buy the tickets. So by that metric, my seats are comparable (actually a little less) than they would have been in the 90s.

This. We were there and that’s what it felt like. Cheering our butts off repeatedly and then giving up 3rd downs was definitely affecting the crowd’s desire to “get hype”. It was a bit quieter, in general, yesterday. We try to go to one or two games a year since we’re a family of 5 and live in Nashville so we need a hotel for at least one night. Most have two night minimums. The cost is too exorbitant, frankly, to go to more games when it costs what it does.

Anyway, this year the crowd was more subdued than last, just in my opinion. The Vol Walk was quieter, the first half was quieter. I WILL say, everybody woke up in the second half and it felt like a normal, “Neyland Loud”, game. I thought people were going to start throwing stuff on the field because of the calls. So. Many. Missed. Arkansas holds. Obvious from the seats. Section W. Love that section. Maybe it’s because in years past it’s been absolutely absurdly loud and crazy in our “go-to section” W, so even a small drop-off in the nuts-o level can feel “subdued”. I have high crowd expectations. 😂
I live in Franklin and I've driven all the way home after late games in Knoxville plenty of times.

just stop at Buc-ees and get some caffeine 😂 😂

Ticketmaster is already in trouble with FTC, consumer protection….

And we have the highest ticket prices in SEC by far, so it would help if people report examples to the government to add to the case! That is how it can be changed! It’s up to us to hold the AD and admin accountable.
That's not anywhere close to true. Face value is comparable to Georgia and actually lower across the board than Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma. Resale prices are high because people are willing to pay those prices.

they aren't the same. ESPN/ABC usea their "A" equipment and broadcasters while the SEC network uses the leftover junk in the back of the warehouse, including the announcers
Other than the Fowler/Herbstreit ABC game each week that uses a specific production truck, all other ESPN and ABC broadcasts use the same equipment that ESPN has installed on each SEC and ACC campus. They don't typically roll a truck for any other game and haven't since they began making the on-campus investments over the last decade.

well there's clearly a difference in how each network sets up and uses the equipment because ALL games on the SEC network sound terrible, not just at UT games. Games on ESPN sound great and gamea on ABC sound very well produced and very loud.

I love how poor people think they are better fans than others. it's cute. it's also funny that they don't understand that the people screwing them over are their friends reselling their tickets to people with money to make a huge profit and then sit at home and happily watch the game on their big screen tv they bought with all that money they made off their tickets 😂😂💯

I respect you right to your opinion, but, again, the same equipment is being used by the same crews each week, regardless of what network its on, save for the one ABC truck game each week that I referenced.

Let’s Blame it on the alcohol sales. Part time drunks can’t hold up for a full Saturday in Neyland now with alcohol available inside.
During the GA game we never sat down, screamed at the top of our lungs every defensive play, and sang every damn song. By the end of the 4th quarter and OT, I was tired boss. My liver was in shape. My voice and lungs not so much.
dude I've been going to Tennessee games since I was a student in the 90s and I can 💯 tell you the loudest and most rowdy fans are always the drunks. having beer sales inside the stadium just means that the university makes their cut of the profit and less people sneak in bottles of bourbon. I say less people because there are still tons of people who refuse to pay high prices for beer when liquor is so much cheaper and easy to sneak in.

yeah I mean all that equipment comes with mixing boards and levels that get adjusted. the SEC network games the crowd noise in the stadium is always muted more than on ESPN or ABC. it sounds like they put their mics at the top of the stadium.

and if it's not happening at the stadium then wherever that signal is being sent back to the SEC network HQ for distribution, it's getting done there. something is clearly not the same.

Except it is. Yesterday, not so much. But the players were sleepwalking and there was no energy from anybody. Ga was as loud as it's ever been. It's hard to get up for ETSU and UAB. Our home schedule has been garbage to this point outside of GA.
Oklahoma will be loud especially if it's a night game. but there's really no other games to get up for unless Vandy stays ranked

prices are never going back down. Players started to be paid this season and that cost is only going to increase every year. Cost of tickets will rise every year from now on. There are people contributing thousands of dollars yearly right now to go up higher on the wait list in hopes of being able to get tickets at some point.

Now you don't want to accept those reasons BUT the bottom line is you have thousands of people willing to pay the continually increases to have tickets. One either joins that group and pays, or sits at home. That is the options. and Tennessee could care less how much heat you wish to exert.

I saw this coming and 5 years ago turned in my 14 season tickets rather than pay the increases.

I have to disagree it wasn’t entertaining. Big comeback and, while infuriating, made for high drama.

Joey going out and the entire stadium chanting his name. The spectacle was real.

I would have loved to see us curb stomp them after scoring 17 unanswered goals but such is Josh Heuple's conservative coaching. Thank You!

Think about FSU, Michigan, and Oregon fans. They’d probably take the W.

Again, I get your point that it was hard to watch as a Vols fan. No one was leaving their seats yesterday and glued to the game. It was entertaining and the vibe when we won was awesome.

oh wow thanks for sharing, I was going off last year. The home schedule and point in season are also factors in that so will be interesting to see at end of season.

They also phase in/out (mute/muffle) crowd noise at ALL sporting events. It’s not specifically @TN
