'25 Recruiting Forum: Official Arkansas vs Tennessee Pre-game/Game Thread

I have a feeling we let ourselves get carried away with expectations once we saw decent QB play.

The defense is Swiss cheese, ol injuries are an issue now. Our thin wr group looks like it's going to be an issue.

Looking at the schedule worse case scenario is two maybe three more wins.

The last two games we've secured multiple turnovers but didn't capitalize. That's going to hurt against better teams, especially on the road.

Oh well into the next one, hope we can steal a win at Alabama.

Winning close games or games you aren't supposed to win is a reflection of a well coached team. We may not have the horses to beat the elite, but I think we're better than our fans give the team credit. These wins are not perfect, and they aren't the kinds of wins that fans want.... but they're still wins.

That being said, I can't handle another run-run-run-punt series on the 40 yard line in the fourth quarter. I appreciate Heupel having faith in his defense, but all it takes is one dude being out of position or gassed and the play blows wide open, and that's simply going to happen with a lot of young guys on the field. I just hope all of these youngsters continue learning as the season goes on, and Heupel realizes what he has in Joey and lets the guy play his game late in the 4th.

We're playing good football in a lot of ways. But everyone knows we can play a lot better. Go vols.

500 receiving yards in 1.5 seasons not exactly 5 star receiver production. Nothing against him personally not his fault that the websites rated him a 5 star.

lol he barely played last year. Was stuck behind much older guys. Was he supposed to rack up yards from the bench? Hell none of the WRs put up numbers last year bc the QB didn’t put up numbers

Who is elite tho? Bama? We can beat Bama. UGA? Almost did and we def have the horses to.

Idk how good OSU is. Is Indiana elite? I honestly don’t think there are any elite teams.

I'm starting to wonder if there are any really great teams in the SEC this year. I think there are a lot of good to really good teams though.

Looks like it could be a crazy year.

Elite defensive line play, elite defense.

Average or worse defensive line play, terrible defense.

It's been the same formula since 2021. It doesn't have to be that way, but I'm over beating that same drum. All I can say is hopefully the play from that unit continues to improve and be more consistently disruptive.

Glass Half Empty: This team is extremely overrated, has beaten 3 terrible P4 teams, and will get exposed in the last 6 games.

Glass Half Full: This team has played some terrible football to start the year and is a missed field goal from being 6-0 and Top 5. Our best football is ahead of us and we are on the right track.

I got no clue which one we are.
I don't think we're overrated by any means. I think that Heupel and Joey created a passing game that nobody saw coming and it blew the fan expectations out of the water. We were expected to finish 9th in the conference and were a field goal away from being a top 5 team.

The defense has definitely been a let down, but I can't give up on them with how much heart they've been playing with. They have to play 40 minutes every game and yet they still generate 4-5 sacks and 2-3 turnovers a week. I just can't stop imagining what this team would look like with McCoy and Gibson though 😔

Yeah I'm honestly with you. This is probably the most exciting and ridiculous season I've ever witnessed in college football. Bama getting destroyed by FSU? Penn State losing to UCLA and Northwestern? Texas getting blown out by Florida then destroying Oklahoma? Washington state losing to North Texas by 50 then almost beating #4 Ole Miss?

I mean, what the hell is going on? You look around the league, you realize that no one knows what's going to happen next, and it makes the "we only won by 3 points so that means we suck" ideology seem silly. Crazy **** is happening all around us. The name of this game is survive and advance and we keep on surviving.

So we’re looking at losing 4, maybe five games to finish out the season - pretty disappointing considering how we started the season and the surprise of QB play…
Don’t even want to know how many guys will be out for next week- at least another 2-3 starters… sheesh- I have friends that text me all the time asking why our players seem like pu$$@&, several going down per game…

Josephs straight up telling everyone the players aren’t executing and it’s not the defensive calls.

I expect about zero of VN will take that into account.

I appreciate that he takes accountability, but who is the person responsible for teaching the defense to execute on the play calls? We do not need to make excuses for Banks. He recruits and developers the players.
