Another Government Shutdown Thread

The politicians (both parties) leave these pain points in place for their lust for power.
Seems like they could easily agree to pay personnel deemed essential or is the only truly bipartisan item house and senate benefits/pay raises?

Im going to let you in on a secret. If you hire people going off their resumes and interviews, affirmative action/DEI doesn't even come into play. Affirmative Action/DEI was always a "recommendation" when hiring, at least in the FAA. Source? Me hiring over 500 people.

Oddly enough anyone who told me their preferred pronouns on interviews never interviewed real well and didnt get hired. Weird how that works..

Written or not, all companies hire people to check a box and it isn’t solely based on resumes and interviews. That said I turned down a job at Lockheed that clearly lists affirmative action in their job description as does all government jobs and those that operate under government contracts. That’s not why I turned it down but it’s clearly something they utilize, or use to at least.

They were striking. These people are using approved sick time.

I'm not working for free

Don't know why people expect them to
They aren't either. Nor should they. But they will be paid later. When it becomes apparent they aren't, then they should burn their sick time. Then stay home. This is Schumer's shutdown, not Trump's. Blame him and Sombrero Jeffries.

The FA
Probably a good time to reassess the benefit packages.
A should be an oversight body. Period. There is no reason for controllers and those doing the grunt work being .gov employees. Look no further than what is going on right now. It the entire system were privatized and the FAAs only job was ensuring they are adhering to the rules, none of this conversation would be occurring.

Change my mind.

Yes. Fire them all. And what do you think happens over the next 2 years while they train the new ones? Because as I am sure you know the airspace from 1980 is exactly the same as now...

I love the emotionally based thinking on this board. Reminds me of the loony left and their views on trannys and free handouts.
The entire ATC system should be privatized.

Most people have to use pto/vacation when they’re sick and don’t have actual “sick” days. Government benefit packages are ridiculous and part of the reason it’s grossly inefficient.

I receive a modest 40 hours of sick time each year, plus 200 pto/vaca time

That’s more than most. I’ve had the 200 hours of pto but only 8 hours of sick time. Then if you really got sick and had to use something like fmla your pto time was deducted first before the fmla kicked in. That was a company I worked years ago. My last company I had less pto and no sick time but it was a far better company to work for.

So you don't want them attracting top talent?

Shouldn't Trump have fixed that by now? I believe he thinks he did
Going from complaining about government employee productivity in March to wanting government employee benefits cut in October is such a perfect example of the problem with American politics and the Internet.

lol. Why? You really think the airlines calling the shots is smart? (it isnt). Not a single country, privatized or not, has a better or safer airspace system than the USA. That's a fact. Privatization works in small doses or in countries where they have f##k all air traffic (Canada). What else should we privatize? Lets do the military next! Privatization doesn't remove the tax payer burden. There is so much about how government works that a lot of yall just don't understand or can't comprehended.

So if it's like Trump and Elon claimed they would cut vs actual it'll be $20. Thanks I guess
One person scamming the system so obviously its being done everywhere! And bad actor? What's outrageous is that someone let this woman out of her wheelhouse of cutting the crust off of PB&J's and wade into politics.

Why havent the Republicans changed the rules to allow them to shaft the dims and reopen the government? They can do that.. Unless this is all just grandstanding theatrics from Trump.
I'll take theatrics pretending to be fiscally responsible over what we've had the previous 50 years (minus 2) any day of the week.
