Usually, those few and special people who turn their celebrity into something bigger that serves the community and society at large, have long left the stage by the time we regular folks have a chance to express our appreciation for the totality of their life's work.

So Saturday is a rare opportunity for 100,000 to express--on behalf of the entire state of Tennessee--our gratitude and admiration for someone special, who's been one of our own from the day she was born.

Let's standing O for Dolly 'til the networks have to explain after commercials why the kickoff has been delayed.

And maybe years from now when you retell the story of "I was there when..." a child will ask you what was so special about the lady. And maybe another generation can be inspired by Dolly's best decisions.
