Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

If things don’t improve dramatically with most of the guys back, then I’m at the point that I’m ready to see a change with the DC. Tired of the bend then break defense.
I don't like it, especially when the "don't break" doesn't get off the bus in the big games.

There are all kinds of legal fat shredding supplements at GNC. There was one I tried back in the day, Agent Orange or some ****. Dude at gym swore by it. Never did anything more for me than walking 5-10 minutes and stretching did. Or drinking coffee beforehand

Tried creatine also. Just wasted money.

Grilled chicken, and red meat. And whey protein:

There may be something newer like a Possum excrement gland, or Temu can recommend something.
I'm already so strong that lifting weights probably wouldn't do much for me. . .

You keep saying four starters. We’re down two starters and replaced one with a first round corner.

We were down three starters when moi was out for a few games.

Stop rate is the best measure and it’s not good
2 first string corners. 1 first string DT. Then our 3rd best DT. Which is basically a starter. Football doesn't just have 22 participants anymore. It's a rotational sport. Think about it like hockey rotations. Somebody's gotta be on the field in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. And moi was out for basically the entire season until last week.

And as for stop rate, allowing 3rd down conversions only 35% of the time is a pretty decent measure when you're playing a bunch of new guys. Stop rate is 86th which is pretty bad. But we literally had the #3 stop rate in the country last year so it's not like Banks doesn't know how to do it.

If this was a Joe Milton or Nico led offense, we'd be screwed. But I'll always take Heupel and Joey in a shootout (as long as our kicker can fix the thousand yard stare lol).

The defense's job this season is to take risks, force negative plays and get turnovers.

Yards are meaningless, but possessions aren't. We need our defense to get off the field and give the ball back to our explosive offense. Instead, Bank's scheme focuses on playing the odds that if you make the opposing team string together a long drive, you have a better chance of preventing a score. The flaw is that if they possess the ball, even if they don't score, they are still preventing you from having the chance to score.

I just don't think his defense aligns with Hype's offensive strategy very well. It's great for the B1G preTENd offenses, but not what Hype is trying to do.

It would be like pairing Bruce's offense with Deacon's defense. You wind up minimizing not maximizing your comparative possessions because you shoot fast but then play defense to run out the shot clock.

It's all bass-akward to me.
You are exactly right and I agree. Banks goal is to get off the field believe me, but it is also a major priority to keep the ball in front of the defense. I agree that the defense has not been stelar and I also believe that is due to injury and inexperience. This defense was different when we had two experienced lock down corners.
I think we lead the SEC in takeaways and we are getting good pressure, so it is not all bad. I believe that the defense will be fine. Just know that if the choice is between being aggressive and risking explosives or being conservative and yielding yards by the handful, it will be the latter.
