Arky has been a thorn in our side…..

Going back to 1998: Tennessee is 5-6 vs Arkansas. — With Four consecutive losses.

I was at the 1998 game, and it was an absolute sports miracle that we won that game. Stroener’s legendary “Stumble & Fumble” with 1:47 left on the clock….

Tennessee would NOT have been in the BCS National Championship game had they lost that game to Arkansas.

Tennessee could also have been Repeat National Champions in 1999 - if it wasn’t for Arkansas! 😡

— Not to mention a Six-Overtime game in Neyland that the VOLS snook away with in 2002….

Arkansas doesn’t always look that tough on paper, but they always show up ready to play - And they sure don’t FEAR Tennessee.

Call it a “trap” game - or whatever,
But the VOLS should not take these guys lightly!…..

Very disturbing how well they play against us, honestly. In every sport. I’m pretty sure basketball hasn’t won in Fayetteville since 2009. Baseball has been absolutely dominated by them, which is insane considering how good we have been over the last 5 years. Tennessee football still owns a pretty decisive 13-6 record against them overall, but they pretty much always play us close. The games with the highest stakes for both teams have mostly been won by Tennessee, though (1989, 1998 and 2002, for example).

13-7 and they have won 5 of the last 6. I think we get it done Saturday though.

I was there in 98 my dad thought we had lost so he said let’s go , then the Stoner fumble happened as we were coming out from the upper deck concourse so we watched the rest of it on one of tv’s in the concession stands. People forget we still had to drive down 40 yards after the fumble to get the go ahead touchdown. It was all Travis Henry from that point on. Great memories and hard to believe that’s been 27 years ago now.

Why would Tennessee definitely not have been in the NC game if we’d lost the 1998 game? We’d have rematched Arkansas in Atlanta. If Tennessee wins that game to finish 11-1 and SEC champs, which 2 teams are in over Tennessee? Not UCLA. Not KState. Probably not FSU with its backup QB. We’re probably playing 1-loss Ohio State.

And 1992……😬
That was a killer. Losing to the two expansion teams that year kept us from going to the first SECCG in Birmingham. Beat either one and we win the East because we had already beaten Florida and Georgia. Arkansas was terrible that year and SC wasn’t much better.

As I recall, Arkansas hit a 50+ yard FG at the end to beat us. In Neyland.

Yeah, and they’d just lost to Citadel 🤢
Majors (too) quick return from heart surgery muddied the waters. That was just a weird season. They weren’t beating Bama, but that should’ve been their only regular season loss

Yep. And we’d have played them in a rematch in Atlanta with a more seasoned Shuler. Probably still lose, but funny things happen in rematches. Hell, Florida was a pick 6 away from beating them and we destroyed Florida that year.

Lotta coulda, woulda, shoulda in our painful history. You almost expect it every season...well...some of us do expect it every season. 😏

That was the beginning of the end for Majors
