President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

@luthervol

Are you of the opinion that a State provided good will be of equal quality and efficiency as that of a Private good, driven by competition and sourced on the open market?
I'm of the opinion that many would welcome a change in the healthcare system.
I'm of the opinion that those without health insurance would love to have health insurance.
I'm of the opinion that as a country we spend far more per capita on health care than is needed.
I'm of the opinion that there are hundreds of thousands of people getting rich in the health care industry who are adding nothing of value to the overall system.
I'm of the opinion that many things are best when not in the hands of strictly for profit open markets.

Where did you get the notion that our healthcare system is open market and competitive?

It’s not as “open” and “competitive” as my fast food choices, but I can choose in the open market the healthcare I’m looking to source.

I take it you disagree?

I think your explanation is fair. I think it is a bit more restrictive than you're aware though.

CoN, Turf between providers and hospitals, hospital affiliation, insurance regulation, and the predominance of 3rd party payers. This is mostly found in the MD community. I don't think para medical have nearly the regulation or bureaucracy.

It would be really interesting to get the opines of KD, 8188, volbeast, NGv, and others who work in healthcare.

It kind of does.

There will be both positives and negatives as the balance between private/public healthcare continues to shift.
Not really.

Is a State product on average going to be of equal quality to a Private product?

You seem to be alluding to what is obviously, intrinsically true - “no”

You are speaking to the trade off, which I don’t deny exists.
We have the highest quality healthcare in the world - it’s why people of means flock here to access it.
We also have an access and cost issue - which is why so many here go without it.

The “positive” will be more people with healthcare.
What is the “negative” you speak of?

Yes, which is what I was trying to say - it’s an open market, just not as open as others.

I have a hard time understanding how the conversation about healthcare tends to revolve around the price of care. And that is hard for me because I am not aware of any good or service where the consumer is separated from payment and prices adhere to market forces (rise and fall). In all of those arrangements prices increase and increase rapidly compared to rate of inflation.

I believe the state does better at many things than would a private product/company.

AKA College tuition and guaranteed student loans?

On “many” things. Absent is your affirmation that State Healthcare would be one.

Again, the “positive” will be more people with healthcare. But what is the “negative” you allude to?

That's not the only positive.
I'm just assuming there will be negatives because there are always tradeoffs.....but maybe not.
