Why do so many seem to have an obsessive interest in making NYC and other large cities look as bad as possible?

How one answers that question says a lot.

Imagine if we had ongoing threads posting nothing but social media BS spewing mostly false negativity toward small towns, farms, and rural areas.

It's all part of the propaganda. Every blue city has to be a "war zone" where everyone either is an unattractive trans woman with purple hair and piercings or a violent criminal.

A lot of people on the right are never anywhere near cities and will simply believe it; demonizing "the left" as people you can't possibly identify with or have anything in common with, just a bunch of evil trans criminals that are "coming for your children" or some BS, is MAGA's entire thing

you mean the general opinion about how they are hubbs of the KKK/racism, the uneducated, incest, wild west gun crazies, and probably a few other "rube-esque" assumptions that get thrown onto every small town?

I don't think most of those things get "thrown onto every small town" at all. People in cities will act like the South is full of dumb rednecks or whatever but there isn't the same campaign to act like every non-city is a war zone where you risk either your life or your sanity with every second you spend there. When have you seen me or someone here complain about small towns the way nearly everyone here does about cities?

go check the gun thread. when constitutional carry was upheld the argument was you were going to be stepping over bodies with all the shootouts. and that the only way you could visit small towns was in a tank and it would surely look like Mad Max.

haven't seen warzone specifically thrown around, but definitely third world, and the afore mentioned Mad Max comparisons. assumptions about how poor they are, no education, no modern conveniences.

both sides are largely nose blind to the rhetoric that aligns with their held beliefs, or at least the beliefs held by their party. both sides need to practice what they preach.

I think if Trump sent the military into NYC and they killed a bunch of people, a lot of MAGA legitimately would celebrate; they are already celebrating sending the military into only blue cities. I would never celebrate the military being turned against our citizens and it's crazy that anyone does, but that's just more evidence that the propaganda works. It's okay if THEY have a huge military presence and eventually martial law, because THEY are crazy liberals destroying the country etc.

I blame the propaganda rags like the NY Post more than I think it somehow says something about individual conservatives. But so many people fall for that s***

Far more righties are invested in making cities look horrible than lefties are in making rural life look horrible.

I bet the social media bs is at least 20 to 1. It's pathetic how easily the right has allowed themselves to be manipulated.
And continues to do so.

There is no where near a 50/50 balance.

In the past, you always hoped that the stupid vote would be split 50/50....and it was usually pretty close.

I deal with this specific issue with my fiance', she is quiet liberal, quiet suburban and typically anti-rural, and her feed reflects it. when I point out the obvious bs that she buys into, she is always shocked that it isn't correct. even when I point out how my parents small rural town doesn't match the bs, she just shrugs and says that doesn't change anything. she refuses to leave the bubble of small town living as being less than. not just on a preference side, she believes it makes people less, and she has one of the milder opinions about it.

Look at Covid reactions. the ongoing anti-anti-vax views, even when they were Mennonites/amish there was a ton of hatred poured out to the larger whole. while I understand the tik tok "trad" life is bs, there is still huge push back against traditional lifestyles. how much rhetoric is pushed on women who do just want to raise kids at home, its at least as bad as any uncle tom talk. how much effort has been pushed to end small time farming, blaming them for the environment, pushing to get rid of meat, there are very vocal minorities who call eating meat murder and compare it to eating humans. there is a lot of hatred that gets spread out over enough topics where you can pretend its nothing.

the hate is there, you just don't recognize it as hate because you generally agree with it or those who say it.

Now do the left. You realize there is the mirror image of this on the left right?

There is some truth to what you posted, but think about this. Any time there is a particularly gruesome killing or tragic event you hear the locals " nothing like this has ever happened before". In places like New York it's totally different, "that's just your average Thursday".

It can be argued, pretty compellingly that policy like defunding police and sanctuary cities have, low or no bond etc have been terrible decisions that hurt law abiding citizens

I don't think there is much to think about here. NYC has 20 million people and the small town might have 5 or 10K. A lot of the propaganda I'm describing includes pearl-clutching about how places with more people have more total crimes, which should be obvious
