Could the actions he is referring to below be a suspension? Or, can it only be a firing? That is exactly what Brendan Carr did. Yes.
I agree that Carr was wrong for threats even if they were emptyI haven't overlooked that at all. The problem is, that because of the de-regulation that Nexstar needs from the FCC in order to complete a merger, the threats made by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr carry significant weight. Nexstar controls 33 ABC affiliates.
Brendan Carr is responsible for the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live! becoming such a controversy. He should not have made those threats. Those threats have complicated matters, to say the least.
If it’s a layup we should see a Kimmel win in court then soon. Right?Problem is that the FCC guy made his threat and Kimmel was soon pulled. Its a lay up for any decent civil rights lawyer to win a claim for a First Amendment violation.
What's more alarming is Trump's comments about broad review of licenses of any network that airs commentary critical of him. Thats just blatantly unconstitutional.
Either way .... he should not have made that threat.Could the actions he is referring to below be a suspension? Or, can it only be a firing?
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take actions on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
No, Disney did that ALL on their own. Which to me makes it even WORSE.Cool.
So no, the Biden administration had nothing to do with Disney firing Gina Carano, so trying to equate it to Kimmel's situation would be incorrect.
So Rosanne was somehow “less fired” than Kimmel (who isn’t even fired by the way); he can be back on TV tonight if he just reads a two or three sentence legal notice like the hosts of the View have to do ALL THE DANG TIME.Once again .... these right-wing social media posts are ignoring the elephant in the room :
The threat that was made by the FCC Chairman prior to ABC announcing that "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" was being pulled indefinitely. The FCC made no such threat prior to Roseanne Barr being fired from "Roseanne." The existence of that threat changes everything, and it does make this an issue concerning freedom of speech. The two incidents are not the same in that regard. You can thank Brendan Carr for that.
You are totally missing the point. So Rosanne was somehow “less fired” than Kimmel (who isn’t even fired by the way); he can be back on TV tonight if he just reads a two or three sentence legal notice like the hosts of the View have to do ALL THE DANG TIME.
