Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

So he's the opposite of Nico in almost every way possible??? That's awesome

The more I see/hear about Joey Aguilar, his family, and the way the team talks about him, the more I like him. I feel like we've got the basketball version of Jahmai Mashack. Just a hardworking baller, that came from a family that loves him and now they all love UT. If Joey pulls this off Saturday (and I believe he/we will), he'll go down in VFL lore and be beloved forever.

Heupel knows what he's doing. I think Nico was a big name and a flashy pick to impress the fans but obviously he was overrated and didn't work out. I'm to the point that whoever Josh wants, I'm good with. The media and recruiting services can't be trusted...... I trust Coach Heupel

If only we could have gotten JA after 2022.

I personally don't think qb is the most important position in CFB like it is in the NFL. In the League is extremely difficult to win without a top notch qb. The National Championship is regularly won with game managers. The top qbs in the League are often from teams win nothing.

Depends who you are imo. But I get your point due to the lack of parity in CFB.

That said, you basically have to be a top-3 talented team to get away with it. Bama and UGA have many times just because they had such an overabundance of talent and their programs were still hungry and not complacent.

For the other ~130 CFB teams, you better have an elite QB, a really good defense, and a sprinkle of luck along the way. Hard to make it through the field without top-10 level of QB play.

Yeah, there's been 4 CFP winners that weren't Alabama, Georgia or Ohio State. Clemson (twice) and LSU had rosters that were within shouting distance talent wise of the top teams and an elite QB so that tracks.

Or you could just cheat, like 2023 Michigan...

People are insane.

The best place I've found to buy a reasonably priced classic is "Classic Car Addict". You can get a sweet ride for like $20k. Sounds like a lot, until you see the cars and realize they are restored or in very good condition. I'd buy one of them before I bought a newer car in the $20k's.

I was hoping I could find an old Comanche for around $3,500-$4,500, obviously needing work, but I can't find much under $10k. Even the piles of scrap are around $8,500.

I kinda had an eyeball on this one, but I don't like the color.

Check out Maple Motors in Hendersonville Tn. They have a lot of reasonably priced classic cars. No show cars just weekend rides.

Vols - 41
UGA - 23

James Stewart rushed for 211 yards and four touchdowns in 24 carries to lead No. 19-ranked Tennessee over No. 23 Georgia, 41-23, Saturday night in a Southeastern Conference game at Athens, Ga.

Stewart scored on runs of three, six, 71 and 15 yards, the 71-yarder coming with 7:44 remaining when he broke two tackles on his way to the left sideline from where he outran the defense.

Junior Todd Helton, a Tennessee baseball star making his first start at quarterback as a replacement for injured Jerry Colquitt, kept the Bulldogs off balance throughout the game with a few key passes, but mostly through the running of Stewart and Aaron Hayden, who had 113 yards.

The Vols netted 383 yards on the ground.

The coaches coach all the players. They don't give up on one player because their not catching on fast enough. If anything, the coaches should double down on Merck. These kids are people but they also represent an investment in time and effort from the coaches and the players themselves. Merck should, and does, get the same level of coaching that Swaguilar and GMac get. He should and will continue to get that. SugyVol was the one that originally said that the coaches should stop spending time and effort on Merck. I say the opposite. They recruited him for a reason...now they have to coach him up.
I promise you he doesn't. Not during the season. The coaches are trying to win games, not actively develop players during the week. That is what Spring and Fall camp are for.

What you're describing would effectively amount to splitting 1st team reps three ways, which would be insane.

They are all in the meetings. It isn't like the QBs meet while they tell Merk to go get coffee lol. But like I said, QB development during the season is more like independent study. If I had to guess, Merk and GMac are splitting time on the scout team.

Well, Merck is likely our second string QB if Swaguilar goes down for some reason, so he should probably be getting the reps to be the back up.
