You're right man. Masters of the Universe, Toy Story 5, and Scary Movie 6 are changing history.
"hollywood" is a business comprised of a few studios/major streamers that have operating costs and shareholders that need satiating. dont go looking to
hollywood to satiate your need for an artistic, original story. their job is to make money, not fund Jim Jarmusch flicks.
Original movies come out all the time, and the past two years have been particularly prolific for good original stories. Malick, Ramsay, Bigelow, Reichardt, Claire Denis, Safdies (separated now), Jarmusch, Spike Lee, Borgli, Luca Guadagnino, Chloe Zhoe, Ridley Scott, Sean Baker, Lanthimos, Corbet, PT Anderson, Wes Anderson, Ari Aster, Coogler, Celine Song, et al, all had original films come out in the past 2 years (or are about to release). A couple of them had more than one. This is just a small portion of American indie releases, not to mention world cinema. There will always be great original stories coming out but it comes down to a few factors, 1) do you know they exist, and 2) are your local theaters playing them? and I guess 3) when they stream/come online, would you watch them?
I really love movies and I sometimes get a lil annoyed when people see commercials for some slop hollywood remake or sequel crap and assume that is all they have available to them when in reality there usually are a handful of great American independent (even studio!) filmmakers releasing films at your local theater every month. Go see Eddington if you want something original. Weapons is still playing. There's a new Darren Aronofsky playing. Splitsville looks funny. idk man, try before you cry!
also, you dont like King, at all? The Shining?! Misery? Shawshank? Green Mile? Carrie! ...It?
xoxo
