Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Kinda surprised Josh Schell didn't play a snap. Wonder if he is banged up, because I saw him without a helmet on, on the sidelines.

Kinda hoped he'd be able to contribute right away, since that's what I thought we got him for.

Reports as late as Aug that he doesn’t look the part physically to compete in SEC as of now

If you have time and are interested, the Eisenhower house in Gettysburg is a nice half day spent in Gettysburg. Living near it, I've found a lot of people don't realize it's in Gettysburg too.
thank you. I will see how it plays out. I am hoping for at least four days there, knowing that will probably not be nearly enough.

What got me was the woods surrounding everything. The soldiers had to fight through all that deadwood, uphill, fallen trees, wait-a-minute vines, etc. with cannon shells falling all round, no modern tactics of move and cover, straight into the barricades set up by the defenders. The bravery of just doing that is staggering to me.
The thing that boggles my mind is how they dragged cannons up Lookout Mountain. It's practically straight up.

Hey! I ain't no dang yankee! I was bornt in West Tennessee and raised on humidity and mooskitos right here in the south. Now, @Adam Sandler...fairly certain he spent a fair amount of time in NY and CA...so if you're looking for a capetbagging yankee....look no further.
Blasphemous slander! You can’t divert the attention to me with fake claims!

I was born and raised in gawgia. Mom was raised in Knoxville. Dad’s blood runs as south of the mason dixon as is genetically possible. Nice try, buddy boy!

Enjoy that egg on your face, @Glitch The Carpetbagger aka og creator of jinx inducing game threads.

Coaches poll. Yet to be seen in AP poll. Prob won’t move up 7 spots to 17.
correct. really interested to see if AP voters readjust where we are slotted. They gave us that ranking due to not having a QB.

I think that opinion changed this weekend.

We shall see.

I think we are likely 20 in the AP.

Yeah that makes sense. Wonder if they redshirt him. Otherwise, idk you'd hope he'd be able to give you a couple snaps. He does indeed look a little small.

Eason and some of the others looked gassed.

I think that even Alabama fans understand that nobody was going to win at the same level. On average Saban won a national title a little more often than once every 3 years. Until 2020, he actually won a national title every other year, on average. He won the SEC at a clip approaching 2 out of every 3 years (9 out of 16 seasons he was at Alabama). Even the most delusional, entitled Alabama fans know nobody else is going to come in and keep that pace up.

I think what they expect out of DeBoer (or anybody who happened to replace Saban) is being one of the top 2 or 3 SEC teams in any given year, winning the SEC once every 2-3 years, making the CFP basically every year, every 2-3 years making a deep playoff run, and eventually delivering on one of those deep runs by winning it all. High expectations, yes, but they should have high expectations.

What they are seeing now is so far removed from being able to meet those expectations; that is why they are upset. They look like what I would describe as a "typical good team." There's absolutely nothing special about them.
They definitely have unhinged expectations. They are back to the days where they were occasionally good.

I saw an Alabama fan earlier say that they weren't expecting Deboer to be Nick Saban. They just expect to compete for championships every season. Not many other than Saban have ever been able to say that. Those guys don't grow on trees and they do not coach at Alabama anymore. You have to overpay a guy who clocks out at 5 every day and is just waiting to collect his buyout.

I keep seeing people say this. We've had the depth to overcome injuries for several years now and Georgia needs to prove to me they have a passing game before I pick them to beat us. To be fair I can't pick us to beat them either but I think we have as good a shot at it as anyone on their schedule. Perhaps better.
We haven’t scored more than 17 points against Georgia since Heup became coach. zi want to see us get the offense going against them.

No better year to do it than this year. Georgia will be stout on defense but we have a lot of weapons. We just need Joey to distribute the ball to them. We saw plenty of new wrinkles in the offense against Syracuse and we know we are sandbagging until we play Georgia. In Neyland? Can't wait.

I know it’s just 1 game

But Joey gave me 90s/early 2000s gunslinger QB vibes.

You hardly see guys like that anymore since coaches largely moved to more risk adverse passing concepts.

But I could see it in him. He ain’t scared. I bet he will throw us out of a game or two this year. But we might stand a chance against some better teams as well if he gets hot.
Good thing we are the better team in 10 of our next 11 games.

unfortunately I think the only way we are beating Ga is if most of our team is back and healthy, and it's not looking good at this point. If we had everyone (Hobbs/McCoy/Gibson/Moi, etc) back, I think we spank the pups.
Beating Georgia will get Tennessee a large jump in Polls. Beating down ETSU this coming weekend will prove nothing to voters
