Maybe I am missing something, but 20 million dollar fine and decade long show cause is nothing?Question: considering the new NCAA precedent set for opponent espionage, aside from honor, is there any reason not to be doing this?
Actually Heup's system is much simpler read wise than what JA was running at App St,but it requires quick decisions. I think he will be fine learning the system. If he had gotten here in January, I'd be a lot more optimistic about my expectations. I still think he's going to be good. But I also think there's going to be some errors that come from missing spring. Stuff like throwing to the wrong route where no one is around, holding the ball too long etc. but regardless, I'm excited about the unknown this season. How the offense looks. Seeing which young guys show out. Just watch football to watch football. Can't wait
show-cause has no real effect on Harbaugh....how about a few million dollar fine out of his pocket and permanent ban from NCAA
GROK: Since Harbaugh is established in the NFL with a lucrative contract and no indication of returning to college football, the show-cause penalty is largely symbolic in his case.
The problem is the net benefit came from the years of doing it prior which boosted their records and ultimately recruiting. By the time they made that title run it was the team more than the cheating that won. So the risk to "win" a title is you need to be engaged in this for years. Cause Joe's still matter more than Connors.I wait info on reduced scholarships...but I'd be good with that trad off. Give me the Natty.
That’s one year of Adidas money. It’s not nothing, but for a natty? Seems worth the risk.Maybe I am missing something, but 20 million dollar fine and decade long show cause is nothing?
Teams were already trying to get calls in less nefarious ways. Beamer and Venebles were rumored to be doing this before Beamer bought Stallion's. MI took that to a seedy ridiculous place and they'll always have an asterisk next to their name just like the Astros.
They gave Pruitt similar for IMO less. That’s one year of Adidas money. It’s not nothing, but for a natty? Seems worth the risk.
Also, my guess is they wouldn’t have dared giving Harbaugh a 10-yr ban if he wasn’t already realistically out of their jurisdiction. That’s the worst part of the punishment, by far, and it doesn’t affect 2025 Michigan at all.
Lally came in 2023 and Hadden was Heupel. Came in 2021.I did think Gibson was a transfer. Pruitt I'm pretty sure recruited Lally and Hadden. Martinez is also the coach I have least issue with out of the three, because at least he can take guys that are performing on other teams from the portal. I do wonder if he even bothers with recruiting any CB in the top 100 out of high school. I just don't remember him landing a splash recruit. The Oline coach has finally stopped missing on everyone last year, but that group looked awful pass blocking last year.
While I agree with you about transfer portal issues could definitely contribute to depth, we are still recruiting 5 oline every year. Are we missing on that many evaluations? Our tackles looked like the were playing in quick sand last year.
And since you brought up Ohio State, it's apparent that they know what they're doing with NIL compared to our absolute lack of success landing big names. Right now we are holding on to hope of flipping Keys from LSU whom we led for last year according to the VN sages on this board. Gray is a long shot, and we supposedly lead for Hitter with an NIL that keeps getting out bid. If we land one of those 3 and finish with 3 top 50 guys, it's a success. If we just end up with Faizon and Moa, then we are still going to be a second tier SEC team on the depth chart. I'm not a star gazer, but we have to have those recruiting wins to take the next step in my opinion.
