2025 NFL Offseason Thread

The Illinois state legislature adjourned without passing a bill to fund the Chicago Bears' new stadium, effectively blocking the team from receiving public funding. This means that the team will likely need to rely on private funding and other non-taxpayer sources for the project. While the Bears initially sought significant taxpayer contributions, the legislative session ended without a deal, leaving the stadium's financing plan in a precarious position.

Good. This **** is so out of control with these stadiums.

NEW YORK (AP) — A gunman who killed four people inside a Manhattan office tower blamed his mental health problems on the National Football League and intended to target the league’s headquarters upstairs but took the wrong elevator, officials said Tuesday.

We'll see how this goes but I don't feel great about it. If they add commercials to RedZone, I'm out. I'll just go back to watching whatever games are on Fox and CBS like back in the stone age. Also if they add anyone they better be in studio, I can't stand the delay and everyone talking over everyone because of it. I just don't see this ending well. If they are smart they will not make any major changes to redzone.

many of the comments people made on "X" reflect what you say above...ESPN is going to mess it all up.

And that's just scratching the surface. At what point is this a conflict of interest and we start seeing WWE type **** to maximize ratings? This just feels gross and destined to ruin a good thing.

They already started doing advertising on RedZone within the last year or so. The NFLN will continue to run the Redzone channel, it's just going to be behind ESPN+.

ESPN+ is an absolutely fantastic value (the product is meh, WHY DO I HAVE TO ALWAYS SIGN IN EVERY TWO WEEKS? WHY CAN'T I CURATE MY OWN TEAMS) but with this and the WWE PLE I have a feeling ESPN+ is going to start costing $20/month-$25/month instead of $12/month. You can get ESPN+ with the PLE package for $30/month which is kind of insane. You're dropping $77/month with ESPN+ and $65 for UFC PPV. Between this and YouTube TV raising costs by 35% the last couple of years, it's getting harder and harder the everyday person to watch sports.

For example, I kept YouTube TV all year when it was $65/month. After the NBA draft, I cancelled it because I don't want to spend $82/month for two months of barely using it. I was going to watch the Speedway Classic, but realized I needed YouTube TV. Well, no thanks, I can miss one game of baseball between two mediocre teams. Not to get political, but with wages being stagnant around the country and the current economic climate, I think these sports leagues are not really valuing that sports used to be something affordable everyone can enjoy. They are pricing out the younger generation. And that won't hurt in 5-10 years. But it will in 30 years.

Yep. ESPN will probably show more wnba “highlights” than football knowing them.

If you think that ESPN skirts NFL coverage in any ways, it's pretty obvious you haven't watched ESPN in a while. They literally run NFL Live for an hour every day even during the offseason.

I’m just going by how they do some of their other shows. The past few years when march madness rolls around they’ve made a point to run women’s tourney stats over the men’s shows and coverage. They make it confusing trying to determine which is which when you’re trying to see men’s brackets, schedules, etc.
