Republicans Trying to Start a Civil War in Texas

Well the problem is that this situation can escalate in a tit-for-tat domino fashion. Each state (blue or red) gerrymandering to get more of their reps in the House. Kind of reminds me how Biden threatened at one point to change the # of Supreme Court justices from 9 to 11 or 13 so that he could fill in the new judges and Dems would be back in charge. Frankly, I'm glad he didn't do it for exactly this reason.
This is a fair point. I know that in NC, the Rs have been redistributing like crazy, and one of their arguments is that it is in response to the D gerrymandering that happened here for years.

It is surprising how many in NC were registered D in the 1990’s, when the only way to have a voice was to be a D, and are now registered an R for the same reason, me included. My home county used to be 75% D, so I was a D. Now, it is 75% R, guess what I am? An R of course. I want to have some say in who we elect and when there are zero Ds elected to office in my county, the way to have a voice is to vote for the R of choice.

Some day, the tide will turn back in favor of the Ds, and I am sure they will do the same, and we will here Rs bellyaching.

This is not a new phenomenon, Gerrymandering has been happening throughout our history. Both parties want to keep power, shocking.

I live in the Outer Banks of NC... Dare County is a red one, but we've got our fair share of snowflake liberals here. Some here would claim I'm one of them! Bastards. While I was previously registered with the GOP, I switched to Independent prior to last election. Frankly, I thought both our Prez candidates sucked, but at any rate, here we are. I definitely don't like how far from center both parties have gravitated and, although I despise Elon Musk, I would like to see a centrist candidate for 28.

Well, first, they'll be sued into oblivion. Second, if they are attorneys, they may have bar discipline. Third, they could be sanctioned by the courts. Fourth, they could be charged with a crime themselves, such as criminal malicious prosecution.

They will claim immunity to all of that, of course. But there will be discovery and I assure you there will be evidence of actual malice, which is often problematic for a claim of immunity in many forums and contexts.

who is going to be sued into oblivion, who is going to be disciplined by the bar, who is going to be sanctioned by the court, and who is going to be charged with a crime here?

Considering that Mitch McConnell refused to hold hearings on Merrick Garland's nomination when Scalia died in February of in 2016, on the grounds that it was an election year, and then rammed through Amy Coney Barrett in October of 2020, I don't really blame Biden for making that threat.

Couldn't the Rs just show up wherever the Ds are hiding and force a quorum that way?

Oh wait that is assuming they actually want a vote and not just theatre.

Oh! Dare County! Beautiful area - and the same political shift as what I described in the Piedmont. Which coastal hamlet do you call home? And, more importantly, why aren’t you fishing right now? 😉

Kind of like the Republicans did to avoid the release of the Epstein files.
Lol, and the same dims who did not do it when Obama was had his third term? The GOP does want the files released. You dims want the files relief just to distract from the treason that Obama did during Trump's first term

Why wouldn’t the Rs want to have a vote?

I’m pretty sure those TX Ds aren’t hiding out in one place all together.

... advice and consent ... This may be a new concept for you so this article can help.

Maybe you have been asleep for the past few decades; but the dems have already gerrymandered the heck out of their states. Their threats do do something like this rings hollow since they’ve already done it.
The dial doesn’t actually go to 11 you know.

The left's version of Texas lawmakers being detained and arrested.

What's the difference and or implications of a "civil" arrest vs a criminal one?
It’s a civil warrant/matter not criminal. Yeah I know that sounds “duh” but it’s not a criminal warrant, no extradition, and it’s worthless outside of the state of TX. This was the response the last time they pulled this stunt also. Going from memory I think the SoH directed the Sargent at Arms to collect the absentee reps and deliver them to the state house to do their job. The SaA power ends at the state line. This is all for show by both parties.

Lol, what part of to "advise and consent" involves refusing to hold hearings on the president's nominees?

This.

I mean it’s “normal” to have a conservative-leaning SC say 5-4. In theory, this maintains the status quo which has been pretty good for our country.

But, yeah, the GOP shenanigans and sheer dumb luck have created a court that’s too far right IMO.

Kill Devil Hills. Moved here in 2007.

Fishing is slow in August, but this past February… 92” and 455#.

Snowed on the way out of Oregon Inlet btw. So cool.
