Republicans Trying to Start a Civil War in Texas

Heh. The Democrats who've left the state aren’t breaking any criminal or state laws, so good luck seeking their interstate extradition from the states they’re holed up in.

In this polar political climate, gerrymandering in Texas prior to midterms ain't something left-leaning folks there want or will likely tolerate.
Don’t care if they “want it” or not. You have heard of “democracy” haven’t you? You’ll take it and you will like it.
Lose elections and things like this happen. Suck it up buttercup.
I have spent most of my life in the political minority having to suffer through all kinds of stupid and insane laws of which i didn’t approve; but I put on my big boys pants and dealt with it.
Now it is YOUR turn. I hope you enjoy every bit as much angst and dismay as I spent the last three decades suffering through.
The Presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court are all in our hands now and we will use them with the same cold ruthlessness that your side used on us.
Elections have consequences. You are just beginning to experience them.

They have a First Amendment right of expression not to appear so as so block a quorum. Forcing them to be there violates that right.

What's next? If they vote against the redistricting plan they can be arrested ? Expelled ? What's the difference between that and being forced to be there when their way of expressing their position is not to be there...

Arresting them would be a constitutionally unreasonable seizure under the Fourth Amendment, for the same reason.

And if an effort were made to take them into custody out of state, beyond the reach of Texas law enforcement, it would be that much worse. God forbid Trump directs federal officials to get involved.
I would hate to have you for an attorney. People are arrested in other states all the time for crimes committed in the original state. If you break Tennessee law by robbing a store in Tennessee, you can most assuredly be arrested in Ohio for said crime.
The cowardly dems are breaking Texas State law. They can and should be arrested. Of course, deep blue Illinois and NY will ignore valid arrest warrants the same way they shelter illegal aliens so no surprise there.

And as to “arresting them for voting against the redistricting plan” is just an absolutely STUPID hypothetical.
Voting against something and losing is honorable and the normal way a “democracy” is supposed to work.
Knowing you will lose a vote but them absconding to ensure the vote never happens is a blatant assault on democracy.
You can’t say you are defending democracy and then turn around and purposely prevent the democratic process.
Please please PLEASE explain to me how sabotaging democracy is in line with defending it.
I hope your next legal continuing education classes come due soon. You need them BADLY.

The Dims are pissed off because the GOP is playing the same game the Dims played in Illinois and Maryland and got away with it.

Non-partisan people are pissed off because Republicans are just as ****ed as Democrats.

Just to be clear, anyone who is okay with the Texas redistricting will also have no problem if California redistricts in response?

The one that replaced a dementia patient with a cackling hyena last election. Now they are doubling down hoping to get to single digits approval rating.
They are well on their way. I must admit their latest strategy of demonizing Sydney Sweeny in order to draw more young men back to the party is a mark of absolute genius 😉

Thanks for wishing me luck, but I don’t need it. I have not said anything about what I think about the propriety of what Texas is doing. Any conclusions you have drawn are a result of Huff-level hallucinations, not my expressed opinions.

Just like North Carolina, now that the Dems are on the wrong side of gerrymandering, they are against it.

(Except in California, of course, where they are pondering it in response to Texas.(

Well the problem is that this situation can escalate in a tit-for-tat domino fashion. Each state (blue or red) gerrymandering to get more of their reps in the House. Kind of reminds me how Biden threatened at one point to change the # of Supreme Court justices from 9 to 11 or 13 so that he could fill in the new judges and Dems would be back in charge. Frankly, I'm glad he didn't do it for exactly this reason.
